1996 LT1 white
I need some help. My 96 LT1 just stop running on the way home. I got gas , I scan and show no codes. I got 45lb fuel pressure. I spray starter fluid in intake and it tried to start. The scanner said the mil light is not on when the engine is not running. I unhook the battery and re hook. It still will not start.

stop with the starter fluid....that stuff is made for diesel engines that can take the hard knocking...

Start by pulling a spark plug to see if its wet with gas. Probably will be. Just because ether makes rattle inside, does not mean all is well with the ignition. IF you have gas, then the spark is suspect. Check opti connections, look for wetness on or around the opti cover, and search from there.
If there is 45 psi fuel, then it almost has to be ignition unless ALL the injectors failed,.
Fuses? Fusable links?

LT! drop dead

OK I pulling a spark plug it was dry . I was driving the car when it Just quit. I have just goosed it up to 60 and it just quit. it been running great for over a year. I had change the water pump last fall, and made sure I seal all the opti connections.

45 psi Fuel pressure

I hook a Fuel pressure gage to the rail when I turn key on I get a steady 45 Psi

What we know...
Just died, no codes, ignites using starter fluid, static fuel pressure AOK, and a spark plug is dry. So this is pointing to a fuel related issue. Can you verify injector fuse(s) are OK. What is the resistance for each injector?

Sorry Boondriver I had to do it.
OK now it does not ignites using starter fluid. I ran the battery low,so now I put the charger on it.
It almost like the PASS shut the car down. I do not see a problem with that.
It hard to think it a injector issue for them all to quite at once.
Thanks to all for the help
What Now?

Pull your ignition module, and get it tested at Advance / Zone. If it passes COLD, it could still be bad when hot.

(yours probably would not behave like this, since it won't start cold even).

I say ignition module, or opti...

Tps

This happened to my 93. The problem I had was that the TPS went bad and it was telling the ECM that the engine was flooded. The ECM then did not send fuel to the injectors because it was trying to clear the flooded condition. When you spray starter fluid into the throttle body it gets fuel because you are bypassing the injectors and the ECM thinks it has cleared the flooded condition. In my case I did not have any codes and I only found this out after buying a new ECM. If you have power to the injectors then retry the priming of the throttle body with the TPS disconnected. OH yes in my case I had to have someone in the car trying to start it while I was spraying(CRC Brake Cleaner) into throttle body.

Another Item to check is the electrical connector under the water pump on top of the opti. It can get wet and corrode inside the connector.

How about a simple check to see if the ignition system is functional... pull a plug and spin the engine over with the plug in the plug wire and grounded to the block... does the spark plug fire???

Ignition Key

My memory is failing me. I was on the interstate and mine just stopped running. It would turn over but not run. Had it towed to a dealer (:L) They worked on it all day and fianally found that the ignition key was not being recognized. Let's see tow fee + dealer $ 900.00 and I rolled out the door.

Good Luck with yours

It hard to think it a injector issue for them all to quite at once.

Is quite possible if the computer is not getting a signal ( from the dist module for one ) to fire the injectors or as mentioned above with the TPS problem being told to shut them down because it "thinks" the engine is flooded.
Need to use noid light on injectors to see if they are being pulsed when cranking .The fact that it " tried to start " with starting fluid show that at least in that case you had spark present

And we have a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:beer

I ran into some real good step by step instructions on how to troubleshoot the no start condition. It was the Ignition module that was bad.
I should have known, I have had this problem before in these electronic ignition Cars. Were is my dell meter?
I let all the fancy stuff cloud my thinking.
But now I own a fuel Pressure Test gage and some NOID lights. say $75.
$80.00 at Advance Auto with life time guarantee.
Is that over priced or what. They only been making ICM's for 35years now.
Thanks for all the help
