HELP! Anybody got a Sears floorjack?

Anybody here use a 2-ton Sears floorjack in their garage, and if so, how on earth do you fill the thing with hydraulic fluid?? :confused

I usually keep every scrap of paperwork I get for the car, truck or garage, but in this case I must have either tossed, or lost the instruction manual. So... I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fill the thing with fluid! :hb

I am so ****ing mad right now - today is just not my day at all!! :mad
 
I have a Sears 2-ton that goes back a while. It is mod # 214-124700-2TON. The procedure to add oil is as follows (quote):

IMPORTANT:

When adding or replacing oil, always use a good grade hydraulic jack oil (or transmission oil, turbine oil, etc.) Avoid mixing types of oil. DO NOT use brake fluid, alcohol, glycerine, detergent motor oil, or dirty oil. Improper fluid can cause serious internal damage to jack.

Adding oil: With saddle fully lowered & jack on level ground, (124500 has no cover plate) remove cover plate then remove air vent valve. Oil level should be approximately 1/2" below valve hole. If low add oil as needed, then close air vent valve and replace cover plate.

Replacing oil: For better performance & long life, replace oil supply once a year. To drain oil, remove cover plate, remove air vent valve & release valve. BE VERY CAREFUL not to permit dirt or foreign matter to get into the system. Replace release valve and air vent valve then replace cover plate.


The release valve is of course under the handle aft and next to the pump piston. The air vent valve is on top of the power unit (or pump body) on the fore side of jack handle pivot point.

Now that you are totally confused, I can attempt to scan diagram if you need it. Best I can do fella.
 
Here's the info for the Sears 2-1/2 ton jack - don't know if it's similar to yours or not.

No matter which hole I choose, I can't get any oil in it! All I can say is that I made a hell of a mess today. :hb
 
Wait, after reading KOPBET's directions again, does it mean to remove the "star" headed plug on the reservoir to allow air to escape while filling through the allen-headed plug hole? :confused

The slotted large plug is an adjustment I believe, although I did try to add oil there too. The jack doesn't work at all now! :mad
 
ken , i have an unconventional way ,esp since i didn't have any papers. i remove both side bolts to remove the jack handle. you see the piston rise out of the body of the jack. i start with the jack in the down position. close the star gear to allow the pressure to build.
then i hand pump the piston that operates normally with the handle. when it stops rising(running out of fluid) i pull the piston and add fluid in the hole . then do the same till it stops again. fill again. so on son. till at the top of its reach.
you just take it slowly adding a little at a time and shouldn't be too messy..

Ok Ken, quit jackin' around. :L

Reservoir will be under the "star" plug, as you put it. Fill there.
Open the release valve and pump the handle full strokes quickly several times over and over to release trapped air.
 
I got it workin' again; the car's on jackstands once more.
