Recently, I have been getting a "Service Vehicle Sooon" message and a reoccuring trouble code - TCS C1281 H

It relates to "Steering sensor uncorrelated malfunction" . . . what does that mean?

Causes from the manual all relate to the VSES (Vehicle stability enhancement system) detecting a steering assist problem (for example: understeer, oversteer, too much yaw etc.). In simple form, as I see it, that nice system that helps you steer through corners etc. (especially when you're travelling a bit too fast) has detected a problem. It is supposed to clear itself if there is no problem in 100 consecutive drive cycles. You say that yours is reoccuring so I would take it to a dealer to fix.

HI there,
This is really a code for your steering wheel position sensor.
This sensor is for the steering wheel input to your ABS.TCS system.
Most likely, this sensor will have to be replaced.

Thanks for the replies guys . . . . looks like a trip to the dealer. I also understand that the sensor can get out of alignment as well and sometimes a realigment of the sensor will correct the code. It does show up as a history (H) code and not a current fault.

Will hope fo the best, thanks again.

HI there,
The steering wheel position sensor is keyed to the steering column, and to the rotational shaft.
There is no way to 'realign' the sensor.

Thanks for the information, sounds like the replacment is the only way to go. Since it is going in for the recall on the steering lock also, they will have a good start at taking it apart.

Thanks again for the response. You are a great resource to this forum.
