I've got a problem with the rear-view mirrors on my 85 coupe. Sometimes when I get in (no pattern here), my rear-view (exterior) mirrors have 'drifted'. Instead of looking behind me, I'm looking at clouds. Both of them seem to do it independently. :confused

Has anyone seen this before? Is it a known 'issue' like the digi-dash?

I'm hoping someone can offer a quick fix (short of disconnecting the motor).

thanks for all the help so far.:upthumbs

btw: Rob, if you read this...Great job on the board...keep up the good work.:BOW

I have a similar problem with the side view mirrors on my '89. I look forward to hearing the advice you get.

Not that I'm aware of. Sounds like the motors in the mirrors might be weak; does the switch control them alright otherwise? :confused

In my case the motors seem to work fine. When I close the door or go over a bump they drift off their set position.

I don't think there is any way of adjusting the tension on them. It must be a weak motor that allows them to drop. :confused

motors

The motors seem t be fine...at least when I adjust them from in the vehicle. And they don't drift all the time, but probably 50% of the time, sometimes I'll notice they've drifted while I'm driving, but I never actually see them move.

my 84 does this too. the driver side drifts down. i dont know why either....

When I bought it several months ago, my 1995 did the same thing. When I closed the door it would move. I looked in behind the mirror and noticed one of the screws that hold the mirror in the housing was missing. I replaced it, and now it never moves unless I operate the control. :)

Good luck...

Plastic 'fingers'...

I worked a little bit at a mirror supplier. One of the quality problems was not the moters (only about two or three suppliers out there) but the way it actuates the mirror surface. The moter has a drive screw attached to it. The moter then drives a multiple prong "clip" that is attached to the mirror. Over time these "fingers" wear down or weaken and void it's functional objective (keeping the mirror in place [your issue] OR adjusting the mirror)

What I don't know is how to replace just the "clip".

ROFL This is one of the reasons I called my car HAUNTED with the vanity plate and everything hehehehe

Mine is Drivers side and looking to the stars
