Just bought a 1962 . I am trying to figure out this matching number thing. The car came with another motor and transmission bolted together . My question is basically which numbers are suppose to match? It would be a nice bonus if I got a matching number car. I didnt bother to open the hood before I bought it.
That could sound stupid by some accounts , the car was complete, been sitting since 1990, and there were only 4 numbers to the left of the decimal point.

Congradulations on your purchase.

The numbers you are looking for is your vin number on your car.

Then on the motor on the passenger side front of the motor.on the block right where the head attach the block exstends slightley further then the heads.find those numbers on both motors and see if any of them match the last digits of your vin.

there alot more to it then that but real quick check those numbers and let us know if you have a match.

this is a picture of a camaros motor number a camaros engine id

You will want to also take a look at the side of the transmission to see if the VIN number is stamped into the case. At least I believe they did it in 62 as well...
