HI all, I own a 68 convertible for about 6 years now, and I was told by the previous owner it had a 71 LT1 in it. After doing some searching recently, Ive come to the conclusion it is not an LT1 but I'd sure appreciate some help finding out exactly what I have. (thinking 1971 L48?)

The Cast numbers are 3970014. Date code seems to say B19 71
Engine code on pad is T0302CJG. The heads read 3890462 E 5 6

Any help you can give would sure be appreciated! Thanks in advance.:)

I believe it is from a 71 Camaro with 270 HP and 3 or 4 speed transmission. The CJG code matches 270 hp Nova, Monte Carlo, and Camaro for 71. The block number matches several cars including the 71 Camaro. The T on the pad indicates Tonawanda which built the 3970014 blocks. I don't show the 3890462 head for 1971. A 3973487 head should have been in the 245 or 270 hp cars. Some other numbers don't match. All this info is from Chevrolet by the Numbers which is a great reference, but not perfect. Although it shows CJG as 270 hp it says the block should be for a 245 hp Camaro. Hope this helps.

I found the 3890462 head casting listed for a '67 Vette 327 300 & 350 hp engines.

I should have mentioned..

The car is matched to a M21 and 4.11 rear. The motor had been rebuilt with some performance upgrades in mind. The heads have the "feulie camel hump" markings which would put them at 66- 67 right? I guess they were added to the block with performance in mind. (I notice screw in studs to rockers, not pressed)hmm.. Ohh and the motor just loves to rev and rev... way past the stock 327 redline in the car(although I try not to)

Thanks for all the info so far, keep it coming!:)
