Hello all you vette owners. I am moving to Hollywood, fl. in May.Can some one tell me if I should do anything special to the finish on my 01, mag red roadster. I have a couple coats of Zaino bros polish on it now. But I was concerned about the bug situation, the intense sun, salt air, etc. Are these elements harsh on the paint? The vehicle will be garaged most of the time. And if someone down there in the fort lauderdale area could give ma a hand finding a garage either private home or storage facility i would greatly appreciate any feedback at all. I love my car and want to keep it looking like new. anyone wanting to take a little time and help me out will be greatly appreciated. my email is RCAV8R444@AOL.COM thank you all in advance. Happy Motoring.

Your car will last forvever down there they dont salt the roads!! You can drive it year round. Wish i was moving!!

Speaking strictly as a re-located Maine-iac ;LOL you are going to like the south a LOT! Keeping a good coat of Zaino or in my case Meguiars should keep your C5 looking new

If you're going to be parking your car outside for extended periods of time a car cover that blocks the UV light will extend the life of your interior.

A good application of wax is great but durring the dreaded LOVE BUG season a good quality bra is nice, mirror covers help also. I have used the GM bra for years and it works perfictly. You can find them on the web for less than $80, don't get ripped off.

Love Bug guts are HIGHLY asidic they will eat through your paint if not removed.within a reasonable amount of time. If this happens a touch up is the only answer no miracle elixer will restore the paint.

Take it from a lifelong Florida boy,

Thank you Roadapple, I will heed youre advice. The bra is a good idea.I have lived in Nj all my life and at the age of 50, I and my wife are relocating to Fl.My vette is not my primary means of transportation, I consider all corvettes fair weather vehicles.Up here in the northeast this car has only been driven in sunshine, no rain, snow etc. Its a 2001 with 23000 mi on it.Garaged 12 months out of the year, driven on summer weekends only. The condo complex we will be living at has underground parking for just 2 of our 3 vehicles, so I am seeking a location for the vette, I would like to find a garage in someones home around the Hollywood area that I could rent or maybe public storage as the last resort, HELP!! Thank you, and Happy Motoring Vette Lovers,

Florida

I just drove my 02 to Ft Lauderdale last week and flew home.
The traffic is worse than I-95 in New York and the agressive drivers
are your worst fear.
All the kids drive those rice burners and race like the movie "Two fast too furious". Watch all your sides. Near W.palm beach I was in the center lane moving with traffic at 75 mph when I saw a black blur coming from behind in my mirror. A black C5 corvette passed on my right at 100-110 mph. Thought about running with him for awhile !!!!

Will fly back down to see the "GatorNationals" in March.

Also don't forget to put some good stuff on your leather seats and dash and doors, etc to protect from the harsh Florida sun and its uv's:)

Having grown up in Ft Liqourdale, the best advice I can give you is....... TINT your windows with the darkest film you can get. It will keep your interior at least 10 degrees cooler! Didn't have a vette then, but my first ride was a '69 GTO with NO A/C and black vinyl buchets. Can't tell you how much leg skin I left on those seats! Enjoy Hollywood. Is the dragstrip still there? It was on Hollywood Blvd about 10 miles west of Flamingo Rd.

Florida Welcome

Ruby C5, As a northern transplant, I agree with all the posts regarding the care and feeding of your Corvette. First, I know that you will love living in Fl. In adddition to the benefit of driving the Corvette year-round, you will find that there is something to do that is related to Vettes or cars in general just about every week. My advice is to contact a local Corvette club that is near to the Hollywood area and inquire about storage. I know of some in my club that store their cars in storage areas because they don't have a garage in their complex. I second the motion to get a good all-weather cover for when the car is left outside for extended periods. Ecklers' (the Corvette supply store) is not too far north of you in Titusville, so it would be easy for you to visit, plus give you an excuse to drive the Vette. One other piece of advice - be careful where you park. There are numerous incidents of people carelessly opening doors without regards to who happens to be parked next to them. I don't think that this is intentional here any more than up north; it is just the large number of cars in the area, especially during the winter months. Also, the so-called "love bugs" only last a short time in the spring and fall, but a good coat of wax and timely removal will be adequate protection. The drivers here are no more aggresive here than New Jersey, in my opinion. Since I have lived in both states I think I can speak from experience. There are numerous incidents or road rage, especially around the Orlando area; due in large part to theme park tourists not knowing where they are going, and the locals getting impatient with them. Again, I don't believe it is any worse than other heavily populated areas. I hope you enjoy your move, and again, welcome to the Sunshine State! Ron

Hi RubyC5 i don't own a vette but the warehouse i work for own a few dealer ships and are always getting cars from florida (recently a green c5 that when it showed up i first thought it was brand new one) that are as if they where never even driven. So i doubt the whether will do anything to your car.

The only thing i recommed in florida is that you make sure your garage is closed and won't open in a hurricane but that dosen't seem to be a big problem:D

Pam Cooking Spray? :eek

Are you sure that's wise? I mean, in that moist Florida heat, doesn't that end up partially cooking the poor car?
