I am needing to found out where I can go to use the VIN # to find out what engine set up was in this car! I have recently purchased this car from a older man and he has about 15-20 engines in his shop! He still has the orginial motor and trans but does not remember what engine went in what! All documents he had was destroyed by Hurrican Katrina, but the car was not located in Mississippi at the time! If anyone has information on how I can get this info it would be greatly appreciated!

Mike, welcome to the :CAC

Check out our Model Center here --> CLICK!
Once there, click on the the "Identification" link. That may help you.

You can also access the Model Center by simply going up to the top of the page but under the main banner and clicking on Tech and then Model Center.

All Chev engines, small block or big block have a machined pad at the front right hand (passenger) side of the block, directly in front of the cylinder head. If the engine has not been rebuilt and 'decked' there will be two sets of characters stamped into the pad. One will give details of when and where the engine was built and what type it is, the other set will be the last 6 or 7 digits of the car's VIN.

Good luck :beer
