Hello All!
I finally got the "last" bolt off the tranny and was backing her off the engine and a mysterious wire snags....gasp. The transmission kickdown cable is still attached. I removed the screw immediately adjacent to the cable, but it looks like the cable is attached somewhere within the tranny. Please, Please, Please tell me I don't need to access the cable from inside the pan. I have the tranny on top of a dolly and jack and don't think it will be easy in the least to remove the pan. Advice, Help, Tips are appreciated!! Thanks.

I can only tell you that on a TH350 one CAN remove the cable without needing to remove the oil pan. The end of the cable has a hook/loop at the very end of the metal spiral cable. You may need to work the cable to un-hook it, but it is not difficult.

I am not 100% sure, but I think that a TH400 works very similarly concerning the detent cable removal from the tranny end.

Push the tranny back in a little to give yourself some slack and unhook it from the throttle inkage and unbolt the cable sheath bracket from the intake manifold. Then it should all come loose.:)

Thank for the super quick responses!! I was able to turn the tranny slightly sideways and remove the pan. With the pan removed it was "easy" to remove the cable. Seriously though, it was quite taught and a bear to remove. Let this serve as a lesson to those who are removing a tranny for the first time. Remove the kickdown cable before lowering!! Yikes....
