Help w/Pwr Steering

[68Roadster]

I just installed pwr steering on my 68 non pwr steering shark and as soon as I fire the motor the steering wheel spins to the left.
I have double checked the lines per my assy manual and everything appears as shown.

Any ideas?? Could the pitman arm be 180 degrees off? Thats abou the only thing that makes sense.....

The control valve balance adjustment must be done with the engine running, but with the end of the piston disconnected from the frame bracket; otherwise you'll "cut-and-try" many times (and assemble and disassemble the end of the piston from the frame many times) before you ever get it right.

The procedure is covered very thoroughly in the Chassis Service Manual, and takes 30 minutes or less. After re-assembling the piston to the frame bracket, DO NOT reach through the steering wheel to start the engine until you've verified that the adjustment has been done properly and the wheel doesn't move when the engine is started.

Steering Help

I can't thank you guys enough for the quick help. I've spent two weeks replacing bushings, cleaning, painting, adding pwr steering, torquing, and cussing........all that hard work and to have it crank up and watch the wheel spin was a let down.

Thanks for the pic of the valve and the previous thread. I will also consult my Chassis manual, surprised I haven't seen it before.

Once it warms up here this morning I'll give it a shot.....

Good advice from the others. The PS control valve adjustment procedure is very simple and is nicely outlined in the GM Service Manual for your year. You will find that this manual is the BEST repair manual out there. They are available at most of the catalog companies and at www.ncrs.org. Click on the store icon and order what you need. If it was good enough for GM mechanics to use it ought to be good enough for us to use.

Guys,
Found the aforementioned section in the Chassis Manual and adjusted as you guys advised.
Worked out great........
I've become so used to driving with no power steering I almost ran off the road the first time I went to turn......
