Help. I purchesed a 170 Tstat and VHP fan controller from ecklers because my 04 was running a bit hot (240) when ambient temp pushes 100 deg. I installed the Tstat ok, but the connectors on the aftermarket control wire harnes to the fan motor are bigger then the ones on the car. has any one encounterd this? I am connecting to (or trying to) a connector located on drivers side, low under car going to a wire bundle to fan assy. a black and blue conn. not black and orange like the one in kit.:confused

Also does any one know a good burping procedure. I installed the 170 Tstat and car gets hotter faster. I have a manual on disk on order but did not get it yet, so if any one can post a good burping procedure I would be greatfull.:beer

Thanks:
Running hot in CT.:mad

You can try my method for installing a manual fan control switch. Its about $5 worth of parts. If the connecter is the wrong size I would imagine the part they sent you is not the right one and it needs to go back. See my link below.

I had to run my car a few times up to normal operating temps and than let it cool off before it would take more coolant. About 5 times maybe. After that I just kept adding to the overflow tank. Leave the heat on max a few times so the heater core is also filled when you turn off the engine. Worked for me.

Thanks

Thanks warren s

I found out why my connectors don't fit. I have fan connectors for a 2005 vette. I must have a late 2004 VIN.
Anyhow I like your fan controll mod and I am returning the ecklers parts and installing your posted mod.

Correct me if I'm wrong but with your mod in the off position the programed fan controll temps will still kick in (185/250). your mod appears to bypass the relays in parellel, the original circitry is not cut or disconnected.

Thanks: Gary P.

Correct, the normal operation of the fans is not changed. On my 99 the first fan will not come on until around an indicated 225.

I installed a 160 therm, and in prolonged traffic with the outside temp over 95 I can keep the indicated coolent temps below 190.

Thanks Warren S

Thanks again.

The 160 Tstat you installed, is that a generic Tstat. ie will any Tstat fit in this car as long as the black o-seal is added around the rim? Some one told me all Tstats are the same phisical size. I was not sure about this, looking for confirmation.

Thanks: Gary P

NO - the tstat is year specific - the 97 to 03 take one model of tstat and the 04 is a differnt one. click below

The 97 to 03 use a tstat that is built in to or part of ther goose neck. The 04s use a conventional tstat. I have been told some 04s use the early model - if your goose neck has an "ear" on it with no bolt going through it pointing to the top of the engine its the "old" style.

leave the t-stat alone and buy a real radiator :thumb
