On my 87 C 4 the left headlight door will open sometime and sometime it won't. I removed the headlight assembly but I am not sure how to remove the actuator motor. Can you give me information on how to detach the the motor from the door assembly and perhaps tell me why the door opens irregularly.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I just did it on mine about three weeks ago. It was pretty simple. The only problem is the motor keeps running after the doors are fully open or closed until the module times out. I adjusted preload on the worm gear and the motor stopped after the adjustment. The next time I used the head lights it did it again. I don't want to ruin the gears so I have not driven the car at night. How much preload does it take?

I did mine too and my bushings were shot (the metal ones that connect to the horseshoes brackets) so I replaced them with the cheap plastic ones. Cannot find metal ANYWHERE! Lemme now how you make out because I am having a similar problem.

Thanks.

Paul, I cant even find the cheep plastic ones for that bushing. where did you get yours ? You are talking about the outside bushing used in the mechanism that raises and lowers the light correct ? The metal bracket portion, that should have a white round bushing on it ?

Yeah, I had Jason at Vette2vette.com get them for me. But let me tell you, they are garbage. Instead of metal on metal it is metal on plastic which tends to bind them. I have a friend who is going to have his friend machine them for me in a machine shop. I was going to try ACE for ANY kind of metal sleeving. You do not actually need the lip on the bushing, just a sleeve because it is held in place by a C snap ring anyway. I am going to get them done no matter what.

Yoda, thanks for heading me in the right direction. I was able to get my issue resolved. I had reservations about signing on as a member with CAC, as I am leary about many of the cyber sites on the net today, but I am glad I joined because the information available is invaluable.

I was able to take apart the headligt motor. I checked the gears they were fine however there were signs of corrosion inside the motor. I sprayed it heavily with W D 40 turned the worm gear several times reassembled the unit and I no longer have lazy eye. I'm sure I saved a ton of cash on this fix and I hope it will do same the for anyone else with this problem.
I didn't expect my reply to be so lengthy but I am really excited!!!

Once again thanks!

Darnell
