As with a lot of Vette owners we are either buying or selling or thinking about buying or selling. Anyway, I'm thinking about selling and I just can't come to grips with a fair and accurate price. Key word is thinking.
I would welcome any and all suggestions as to what you would pay. Of course to do that you have to assume my evaluation of the car is accurate. I am not overselling this.

'81 Coupe - white over black leather, L48, Auto, Air, AM/FM stereo, Color matching tops, 11500 original miles. Interior excellent. Exterior is original St. Louis laquer with only a couple small blemishes. Aluminum wheels. Mechanically sound and runs perfectly. Everything works on this car - yes even the antenna.

thanks

Down here I would venture to guess about 12k if in good original condition with supporting documentation. So hard to guage retail prices some times but the Shark continues to prove to be a good investment. Not to mention a blast to own.
Good luck even though I hope you change your mind about selling.:w

In my area you would be talking about 7500-8000.I would like to revise my estimate as I thought it was 115,000 miles, sorry.
I would be asking between 12500-13500.Sounds like a real nice car.

L48? the only engine option was L81 in 81, this a replacement or for something else? 11.5k on the car engine or both (original engine)?

i just saw an 80 w/19k miles go for $13k on ebay.

oops. correction - L81 obviously

L81 not L48. Stupid typo. Must have had something else rattling around in my head.

11,500 is on the original engine - so yes, car and engine.

thanks for the feedback. i really appreciate it.

A 1981 with only 11,500 miles on it... how many owners? can the car be documented? What are the options? e.g. tires/wheels maybe a trip to the L81 Vette Registry and check out the "Survey" for options.

My opinion..
If the car is documented from order or delivery.. and on a scale of 9 or so on a scale of 1 ~ 10 with 10 being show room condition... to the right person I would guess the high end and that would be around $13,500 to $14,500 with the average 1981 (depending upon condition) being more in the price range of $8,500 to $11,500. Most I've seen owners ask somewhere between $6,500 to $10,500 depending on condition and geographics..

Remember Sugested MSRP in 1981 was $15,598.52 which included Dealer Prep charges (this is off Rare81's window sticker from "James-Martin Chevrolet Inc." Detroit, MI) ;) so somewhere between $6,500 ~ $14,500 is not all that bad :D

BUddy of mine just bought a 1981 with 37k on it, all original, full documentation rare color (maroon two tone I think he said, again he had documentation to back it up) and he rated it a 9.5 to 9.8 car. He has a couple of other cars he shows so I trust his opinion. He paid $13000 for it and thought that he got a good to fair deal. Top end on a 1981, accordinhg to Vette Mag, was about $19750.00.

jdads2- welcome to the CAC!Tell us a little about that 81 you have. Why don't you register your car on Rare81's L81 registry. You can find it right here in this post.
