And he's twisting bolts again on the 64.....

Not the budget 67 Heaven has... but having fun just the same.

So here are the updates ...

FINALLY installed the correct radiator & core support.. ( with not so correct brackets to support the radiator ) but E bay to the rescue.. next week. The electric fan transfered right over ( remember it's not a show car .. but a DRIVER~ )

She runs about 180-200 in this California heat for 100+ degrees.

Did brakes.. but snapped a line ( BOO HISSSSSS!)
But bent in a replacement section, coupled & bled..
Note I had a SLIGHT kink on the Pass side where it coupled to the rubber hose... I tried to straighten it out.. SNAP

BUT the good news is .. the first test drive with the old metal line W kink
the brakes pulled to the right.

With the new TEMP section in... NO PULLING AT ALL!

Now I have to REDO all the metal lines.. there just SO OLD & funky.
I have rubber lines on the way to boot~

Now In electrical news.....

Bought complete headlights & motors finally!

I converted to a standard Alt.. did you know you have to drop the voltage to the feild via a 10 ohm 10 watt resistor
to get the proper output? I found that out the hard way.. but now I'm charging@ 14.5 volts @ 1500 RPM
WOO HOO~

My Optima FINALLY DIES after 5 years will not HOLD a charge.

On the bench.. I bring it up to 14 volts... disconnect everything and watch the meter

it drops about a volt & 1/2 per 20 min down to about 8 ish.. and holds BAH~

So this weekend..... sort out the wiring abortion under the hood.. foward of the core support.
( the prior owner is using the UP switch for the HORN! )

So wanted to let you know were both alive & still here....

Well, the Vigman returns. ;)

It's good to have the Motorhead back in the house. :upthumbs

I was just buried in the barn

For a while... had to wash out all that white stuff.....

It never rain in So cal!

Except the day I plan to put in the new heater core, Battery & master cylinder....

FEH

New Heater core installed

And that was NOT fun.. 5 hrs..
Lots of sanding the old core support & repaint.

2 cracks in the exterior box ( J&B weld to the rescue again )

New hoses & T.
New gaskets.
Lubed motor.
Cleaned up all the electrical FUNK there.

Put the new battery in too..

Next.. new Master cylinder & lines

Welcome back Vigman. I'm glad to hear that you are working on the '64 again. I still like the custom front end on your car. It is unique and unlike any other custom I've seen. I'd keep it as a period custom if it were mine. But it isn't so enjoy it as you wish. :D

Thanks Tom

I think the pictures will be enough for my taste... ( BLECH! )

I CANT WAIT CAUSE I BOUGHT COMPLETE HEADLIGHTS, MOTORS ET AL.

So today.. new master went in... not much of an improvement.. but the peace O mind O meter went WAY UP.. espically after looking at the back of the old one YEECH.. leaker...

I also undid the bulkhead connectors from Fuse panel to engine..
got rid of a LOT of green death ( corosion ) tweeked the pins a bit for better contact.. NOW I have a tight POSITIVE connection.

Oh yes... On the charging system.. I put in a 10 ohm 10 watt resistor.. and that worked OK... but I tried sumptin different a HUGH Diode.

This gave me a .5 volt more out of the Alt and the AFTER MARKET voltage gauge is stitting mid way in the GREEN section...

The upshot is 14.7 volts @ 3000 RPM @ 12.5@ idle...

Tuesday

Drove her into work.. made it 28 miles ( twice ) without incident....
Had it washed...

Parked it on the lot..had a mini car show.

The ONLY issue ( today ) the side view mirror sags.. made a little mod last night.. Now it's tight. I still have some timing issues.. it's just got a bit to much advance in her.

I think I'll give it ONE MORE SHOT and take it in today.. let baby stretch her legs.

TIme to retime & rethink

So I did a dreadful thing.. I assumed, yes that's correct.I assumed.

that the timing marks on the harmonic ( ALA 60's style ) and the welded timing tab were correct..

BZZZZZTTTTTT WRONGO.

I took her on a test drive... backfiring all the way.

When I got back home ( barely ).I found the following.

#1 ) About 20 degrees ATDC ( with the advance pulled ) is where the car started running like it's old self.

#2 ) The Distrib lock down plate didn't do a good job.. so I had VARI TIMING... yeech.

#3) No school like old school, I still had the orig Y wire lock down... MUCH BETTER.

So today.. I need to figgure out where TDC IS.

( Oh and I GOT MY NEW HEADLIGHTS! ) now all I gotta do is put em in...

More to follow.

Lack of progress report

So I have been laid up with a BAD FLU for the last 5 days.. it's JUST breaking up now.

So I have aquired a delay timing light ( 15.00 E bay )

2 backing plates for my front brakes ( drivers side has wear grooves )
( 25.00 for 2 E bay )

New stainless steel brake lines for chassis Front & rear 135.... Ecklers

So Ive been sitting on my posterior for 5 days and accomplished nuttin
cept going through boxes of tissues..

and planning...... heheheheheheheheheheh
