Ricky,
I can appreciate that you are attempting to post pics which draw attention to a self loathing ricer. Unfortunately, it's the way you posted them I have to raise an objection to.

Let me explain this by analogy: Let's say you owned your own Burger King franchise restaurant, and worked really hard to both make the business successful and put out a product the public really liked. Then one day, someone who's only been to your restaurant a few times to browse drops in and starts telling people that there's something really cool on the menu at the McDonald's across the street. Would you be a little upset by that?

I have no problem with posting pics, but if you're doing it in a way that's attempting to draw folks away from this community, that's where we part company.

If you want to import pictures to a post here at the CAC, and you don't know how, we have a very useful thread in the Site Help and Feedback forum that explains it. But if you want to get CAC members to depart here and support another community, I hope you'll understand the CAC's objection. I've modified your post to delete the original link for this reason. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Patrick,

"I have no problem with posting pics, but if you're doing it in a way that's attempting to draw folks away from this community, that's where we part company."

Your reason that the link is intended to draw people away from this forum, is in my view, totally unfounded and borders on censorship. The reasoning you provide now makes me feel as if I'm captive to this forum. Please clarify. I know I'm fairly new here myself, and have benefited greatly from the technical discourses I have read and been party to, but your statement is causing me to rethink my support of this forum.

I am sure Patrick will respond but thought I would add my $.02 worth even though it may cause you some heartburn. First off, this is not a bulletin board for anyone to put up anything they want. I didn't see the link nor do I care to as I am sure it did not contain anything related to the C5 corvette. If rickykline wanted to post something about another type automobile or a joke there are other forums for that purpose. Second, this is not a free for all type forum. The moderators have every right to censor anything they want. This is Rob's site, not public, and the moderators are tasked with this job and in my opinion are very proficient in there duties. You are definitely not being held captive as you can always asked to be removed and your requests will be accomodated. We appreciate your support of the forum as we do all of the members support. However, nothing is keeping you captive here. So without trying to offend you, if you are here to do nothing but complain and stir up trouble then it is time to move on. It is really getting to the point that peoples expectations and responses seem to be based on past experiences of participation on other forums. The CAC is different and we will not allow the type of bashing and whining that go on on at the other forums. I hope you choose to stay as I feel you could be an asset to the CAC but if you feel that you can not tolerate the so-called censorship and Robs rules then Adios.

Randy

PS: My comments do not reflect any of the moderators or the site managers. Strictly my opinions.

Randy,

First off, no offense taken. And your point that it may very well have belonged in the edge or the off-road may be true and quite approproiate. Those points I will gladly agree to, but I still contend that Patrick's reasoning is flawed. I have not seen the link either.
Rob does a great job, and I have openly stated this to him. I also would take this opportunity to thank you for your response, which I feel was written in a most polite and professional manner.

Thanks for listening, I have no qualms with this forum, and as stated, totally enjoy CAC, which is after all, a collection of the members.

Joe

You are quite the gentleman Joe. Thanks.

Joe,
I appreciate your feedback. Let me address your comments:

Two points need to be made clear here. First, Rickykline started a new thread (not added a post to an already existing thread on a similar subject, mind you,) who's purpose was to solicit members from the CAC to navigate to a new forum and join in order to post in the thread he was drawing attention to over there. I viewed the link last night: Rickykline even indicated in that other community that he had posted here in order to get CAC members to post about it over there. There's a certain etiquette about these things in an online context- this wasn't adding information to a discussion, it was an invitation to someone else's party.

Second, as I attempted to explain in my anology, bear in mind that the CAC is a free community based upon two things: supporting memberships and our sponsoring vendors (who advertise on this site.) Those sponsoring vendors pay a large portion of the CAC's server costs, and they advertise here because of the number of members we have online at any given time. When someone starts leading people away from the CAC, it hurts our advertising (read, fiscal operations) base. Thus, in addition to the etiquette, there's a business reason for the objection I raised.

Joe, the internet is a wonderful thing in that you have the subjective power to direct your browser to whatever website, blog or community you wish, and join if you so desire. The administration at CAC is not in a position to hold anyone "captive" here. Indeed, people log in and out of the CAC all day long, and when they aren't here, we aren't foolish enough to think they've gone off-line every time they leave.

We welcome Corvette owners and enthusiasts and appreciate their observations, insights and experiences regarding Corvettes. And our members appreciate the work we do to keep the site both informative and entertaining. (I should mention that none of the moderators or administrators at CAC receive any form of compensation for this- we do it because we share Rob's philosophy about what an on-line Corvette community should be.)

While we hope you don't chose to leave, if you do, it will also be your decision. I hope I've allayed your fears of censorship- after all, if I had really wanted to engage in censorship, I could have simply deleted the thread and not left any comment.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.

:)

Patrick,

Thanks for your explanation. Now, before this gets crazy, lock it or delete it. It is serving absolutley no purpose, and has nothing to do with our C5's!

Respectfully,
Joe

I'm kind of coming into this in the middle and didn't have a chance to check out the link so I can't really comment about the pictures.

Based upon the comments made by others regarding the pictures, this thread didn't necessarily need to be started in this forum.

As for drawing members away to other sites, let me try and clarify: If your posting to show pictures on another site, I don't really care. Knock yourself out. If you find technical sources on another forum that you feel may be the answer to a post here in our forums, feel free to post the link to that other forum. Again, I don't really care. What I DO care about is this:

1. Blatantly using these forums, and the email/PM systems to advertise another online community to the members here for no apparent reason (such as technical help, etc.).

2. Posting pictures here that have another web site address embedded in them and plastering them all over these forums. We don't steal other people's pictures or create pictures here at the Corvette Action Center, embed our site URL on them and then go plastering them all over other people's forums. We don't expect others to do the same here.

3. Telling members here to go and support Vendors on another forum web site when we have Vendors here that pay money to advertise and support this web site and carry the same products.

4. Links to pornographic sites or questionable material.

Other than these 4 main points, I don't care where you post links to other forums.

That sounds like a good idea to me, Joe. Thread locked...
