1974 Corvette Stingray White
Hi I am a pretty new and what not with corvettes. Just got me self a 1974 Corvette Stingray. It needs some work on the interior(Rug and Dash) but the T-tops don't leak and it starts right up, sounds great, the motor looks good and some minor exterior damage. The previous owner is a ex-mechanic who knew his stuff. but anyways just wanted to pop in and say hi =)

Welcome. you'll find a lot of good info here. I'm redoing my entire interior right now.

I haven't done anything lately on it due to other priorities (baby on the way) and waiting for seatbelt replacements to come in.

I've been driving Corvettes for 25 years and my current 1974 is one of my favourites. It's pretty clean but I'm still working on it.

The head unit is a KHE-300 (Ken Harrison Enterprises) rated at max 50W x 4. Tunes come from an old Ipod Shuffle. I have a Nano but you can't play with the screen when driving. There is no cassette in the head but there are CD-in jacks in the back. I do not have a CD. The upper dash speakers are Pioneer 4 x 6"s and the kick panel speakers are Polk 6 1/2"s.

In the back I have a Blaupunkt 8" subwoofer with integrated amplifier. All of this comes together very nicely.

Welcome to the glorious world of the '74.
Don't forget the '74 is UNIQUE.
When buying parts make sure they're for
a '74 or you may have probs.
Don't ask how I know LOL.
CHEERS from Australia.

What model is the blaupunkt amp and 8inch sub? Is there a link to the stereo?
Thanks

The KHE-300 head unit came from Corvette Central, a Center sponsor. It is their #103646. The Blaupunkt THb 200 A came from Crutchfield. It is basic black but I dyed it in oxblood to match my interior.

The same dye was used on the kick panels ($20.00 off EBay, my originals stored) and Polk DB651 (6 1/2") speakers.

My musical needs are such that a 140W, 8" subwoofer is fine. I'm into Roy Orbison, Beach Boys, ABBA, etc., not recordings with a lot of bass. But I can say that the woofer when turned up does shake the seats and rear convertible deck lid. It is self-powered and not limited by the power of the head unit. In other words its internal amp is connected directly to the battery and separately fused.

It is internally switched (i.e. there is no on/off switch). When the head unit is turned on a signal travels to the woofer amp via the kick panel speakers and it turns on. Conversely when the head unit is turned off it powers down in 60 seconds. Being connected to the kick panel speakers it is subject to "rear" speaker fade/balance adjustments on the head. So with that and its own mechanical adjustments there is a lot of room for tweaking. It does NOT have a remote control (hand-held) control function as more sophisticated units do. But once it is set then I just leave as is. To tone it down manually the front/rear head Fade function can be used.
