I'm not a Callaway owner, but I'd like to be some day. I had a 1987 Z51 4+3 Corvette that was very enjoyable, and I'm a big Corvette fan. I sold it to get the Aurora when it became less practical and we didn't have room for multiple cars. But some day I want another Corvette (I'm also a big Aurora fan, though).

I grew up in the 80's (I'm 29) and always loved the Callaway. With the aerobody and Dymag's, it's just incredible looking. So I figure that if I were to possibly only own one more Corvette ever, then what's the one I'd be happy with and love to look at every day for the rest of my life. The answer is definitely the Callaway, though I love the idea of the DOHC all-aluminum LT-5 also. And if I'm at a point later where I can swing more than one Corvette, it would also be a keystone one of the collection that I wouldn't want to get rid of.

It will be a year or more before I'm in the market, but I like to be well-researched. I'd like to get a 1989 or later due to the 6-speed tranny, and mileage isn't a huge concern. But I'd like under 75k or so, and the body and interior needs to be excellent as I'm a real detailing nut. With aerobody and dymags, what's a price a TT would tend to go for? Or an early SN (like '92-93)? Is it reasonably likely to pick one up for $40k or less?

I've enjoyed reading the board here, and look forward to lurking and reading more about the Callaways. I hadn't noticed any production numbers or anything, but I guess with the ability to get a car converted later, this might be difficult to track.

Here are some pictures I took at last year's Corvettes at Carlisle, these cars probably belong to some of you. Let me know if the link doesn't work (it may not, taking a chance on it):

Welcome to the :CAC

Where in the Old Dominion are you located? Many of the cars on your picture setup were from that area, or nearby...
Have you stopped by www.callawayownersgroup.com ?? There, you will find everything Callaway, including production numbers :cool

$40k or less should be able to get you a nice car w/in the guidelines you listed - there is a 90 Vert 6 speed for sale for 39k right now...

Enjoy the site :beer

Good pictures!

I haven't seen too many cars with high mileage. They are mostly used for weekend cruising and/or show. Though I expect them to appreciate more over time, you are in the range as was stated previsouly.
:upthumbs

Good luck and welcome to our Forum.

Welcome to the Callaway action center. Nice pics of Carlilse All of those cars are members here. You should have come by and spoke with us. Wed love to talk to fellow Callaway lovers.

Thanks for the welcome, and I'm glad the pictures worked. I live in Leesburg, VA. I tried that callawayownersgroup.com from work when I saw it in your location, but it didn't work. It's working fine from home, though, so I will definitely be soaking up all the info there.

I'm glad that these cars, while astronomical in performance and style, are not astronomical in price. :beer The only hitch is that my wife will want to drive the Aurora if I get another Corvette... :(

It might sound crazy, but when I was a kid and rode my bike, I used to pretend it was a Callaway and go flying around cranking off full pedal shifts.... :) My grandfather worked for Chevrolet for about 30 years, and was the kind of person everyone knew and liked. He was very friendly with the local Chevy dealer and so when I was young and would visit them in Michigan, we'd always go to Jack Cauley Chevrolet and see the Callaway Corvettes for sale (and of course the other Corvettes and Camaros).

As a slight trivia piece, in 1996 Callaway fielded a Corvette at the 24 hrs of Daytona in the GTS-1 class. However, the class winner (and the class winner of 10 of 11 IMSA races that year) was the Oldsmobile Aurora GTS-1. :) It was like the precursor to the Corvette C5-R.

One of the Callaway's pictured in your album is from Leesburg ;)

I too spent many holiday's up in the Detroit area and while I never made it to Cauley's, I did see the new cars from GM down at the Fischer Bldg. (the first Vette catalog I have though is from Cauley's)

A lot of cool stuff in Detroit - One of the most interesting were the cars that came out at night around Palmer Park :eek

Again, Welcome to the :CAC

Chris, I'm surprised you didn't mention...

Changing direction introduced us to the Callaway Supernatural ÔCorvettes. Previously, Callaway Corvettes made their increased power through positive manifold pressure; now they made it through increased displacement and finesse. Initially called the CL1 or CR1, they designated the chassis they were built upon – either LT1 cars (CL1) or LT5 cars (CR1) and were available with a host of options. These included the familiar Aerobody, special paint colors; a full leather interior as seen previously on the Speedsters, special wheels, brakes, and exhausts round out the list. Cars could either be ordered and shipped directly to Callaway’s facility in Old Lyme or a select authorized installer for installation or, an existing Corvette could be sent to them for conversion. Available between 1992 and 1996, the Supernatural Ô Series output constantly evolved. Introduced as a Supernatural Ô 400, designating 400 horsepower, it grew to become the 425, 435, 440, and finally the 450 models for LT1 based cars and the 475 or 490 being offered for the LT5 models. The Supernatural Ô line was a great success, with Callaway expanding it to the Camaro and Impala lines with similar options. It should also be noted; three very special cars were also constructed during this time, based upon LT5 models. It seemed natural for Callaway to turbo charge the LT5 and on three occasions, he did. Two Super Speedsters were built and one coupe, each unique in their own way.
That was taken directly from The Callaway Owners Group. :CAC

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center Aurora40. Do you have a more intimate name we can use when addressing you? ;)

How about a pic of the Aurora?

aurora gts-1?

Hi Ken,

Yeah, I know there were Callaway SuperNatural ZR-1's, but I think they would be quite a bit more than I am looking to spend. I would definitely consider them if the price were right, but I doubt it would be. I kind of think I should look for a B2K car, just because there's something about twin-turbos and the black centerline body molding. But the better revability of the LT-1/4 also have a certain appeal... :) And please call me Bob. :w

Here are a few shots of my Aurora:

Hey Froggy, yup that's the GTS-1. :) From your avatar, it looks like we are fellow Corsa owners. I've had it for over a year and I continue to be amazed by the sound, quiet cruise, and great looks of their exhaust!

Alright Bob! Now, all we gotta do is get some wheels on the fine Aurora! :cool

Well, maybe we can drop it a little too. ;)

Yep, Corsa for me. I have to admit not knowing a lot about the Aurora. I thought it was front drive, but that pic I posted looks like a rear drive. Was the gt1 a race only modded Aurora?

Yup, it's front-drive. The Aurora GTS-1 was rear drive (and two-door). It was a race car with very little in common with the production car. Not unlike the Corvette C5-R, which has a completely different chassis, and some body similarity and some engine similarities. The Aurora was the same way. The IMSA Aurora V8 was a similar design, but certainly a different engine. :)

You should test drive an LT4. They can be had from 12 - 30k depending on miles & model. I could see you in a Grand Sport!

Heheh, the Grand Sport is another non-red Corvette that I think is awesome looking. I also like the Collectors Edition Z06 for 2004. But growing up, the Callaway was always the ultimate Corvette for me. The body just can't be beat. Everything I love about the C4 style, but taken to the next level. Now, an Aerobody SN GS....... :eek

Ehh, since I'd put up shots of the 'Roara, here's some of my previous car. I bought it in 1997 and sold it in 2002 shortly after I got the Aurora. Did I mention I love metallic reds?

It's an '87, but you all probably already knew that from the wheel centers... ;)

Bob, I saw a members Callaway out at Dulles Twn Ctr last night - the grey metallic 87 in your one pic :upthumbs

The car got a lot of attention , the owner also drove it like it should ;) Especially leaving the place :eek
Way to go Turbo Joe - Love those megaphones :m

That's a beautiful 87 vette :beer
