Hi/Low Beam Simultaneous Activation Whodunit?

Did you ever notice that if you partially pull back on the high beam stalk that it illuminates the highs and lows at the same time if you hold it in the midway position? Super bright, right!?

Well, what I'd like to do is rewire the C4 headlight system so that any time the high beams are on, so are the lows. I could care less about bulb life. I want it bright!

There's gotta be a way to wire this up!

Umm it might be a pain in the A$$ to setup..

You could setup an extra switch or something and dash mount it so that when the brights are on you can turn the low beams on as well.. or just a switch that turns them both on..

But if you are looking to set it up so that you can turn both the high and low beams on at the same time just by clicking the turn sig. stalk you will have the problem of having the low beams and high beams on even when you do not have the brights turned on.. get a wiring diagram and see. I could be wrong but my thinking as such it's hard to explain what I am trying to say..

if you want the high beam and low beam on all the time just jump power to both filaments. but just get a wiring diagram and trace out the power and grounds use a red pen for the power and green for ground and you'll figure it out..

forgot to say that happens at the half way point for the obvious reason that it's switching from one set of contacts to the other.. see but if you tried to hard wire it it woudld cause like I said both filaments to be illuminated at the same time.. now maybe you could set it up with a diode or something so that current flows one way and get it to work but it's a pain in the ass and why bother? I mean my lights are bright enough but I guess thats an opinionated thing.. you could also buy a one of those kits that uses a light housing an you can put a halogen bulb in it like a 9040 stlye or something I dunno..

I use the Hella lamps and APC bulbs in my 92 roadster. They are much better than stock (almost anything was better than stock!). The APC bulbs use 100W on low and 90W on high. The Hella lamp is glass and the lens is cut so that the light pattern is more focused on high beam and the low beam has a flat top to the beam pattern which makes them ideal for rain and/or fog. Even thought they weigh about 3 times more than the plastic bulb, I have not had any problem with the headlamp motors or gears.

I wonder if one of those relay kits used for keeping the low beams on when the you hit the high beams would work. I have one from Painless Wiring on my 99 Silverado. I also use the APC bulbs on the truck, so at night driving with the high beams on is close to daylight! Mabye a bit of creative wiring might do the job.

Wild thought here

The headlight dimmer switch ( Hi-Lobeam) has 2 wires coming off it:

Tan= Low beam
C-100 pin B/4 ( firewall connector)
Lt Green= High beam.
C-100 pin F/8 ( firewall connector )

The coulmn switch is a direct switch.. no relays in the line.


Splice into those 2 lines and run a switch under the dash between those 2 points. When the switch is OFF your headlights will be normal. When you close the switch both Hi & Low will be on no matter which you have selected.

The danger here is with both Hi & Low running.. the circut breaker might trip..leaving you in the dark till it resets...

i do that to all my cars,all you need is a driving light relay. you wire the coil of the relay to the high beam wire and run the power feed with a fuse from the battery to the low beam wire. clicking on the high beam causes the relay coil to pull the contactor making contact thru the relay points to turn on the low beams at the same time. there are several site on the web that show how to do this.
