Hide-away license plate

I was just wondering if anybody has came across a hide-away license plate kit,or has any suggestions for making one,on a C3 corvette?

Have seen them on street rods with an electric motor or possibly a hydraulic system. Not sure of the particulars of operation.

In a previous life, I've replaced the white license plate bulb with a red one. It lights up the plate but once you get about 10 feet away, it's a real pain to make out the numbers. Of course it was on an off-road car, never on the street, no way, that would be wrong.
