Hey all,

Can someone please tell me which years in the 1980s that C4s had a high mounted stop lamp fitted from the factory as standard?

Thanks!

It was either '85 on or '86 on. I know the 84's didn't.

:w

86 was the first year for the third brake light. On the coupes it was on top by the top, and on the verts it was in the bumber. This patter continued on till around the 90's, then it just went in the bumper, wheter it was a coupe or vert.

Attention Everybody!

Gotcha, didn't I? :L

For the information of all you other folks out there, take a few minutes each day to explore our vast database of knowledge here at the Corvette Action Center. If you visit the TECH CENTER (It's one of those little tabs that you find on each and every page here. ;)) you'll find listings for everything from Featured Articles to a Toolbox which contains an extensive listing of online automotive calculators including purchasing and financing calculators, engine and chassis calculators, as well as helpful charts and links.

Right smack dab in the middle of those choices is the Model Center where you can find answers to questions such as posed here.
Back in 1986...
The Statue of Liberty illuminates the New York Harbor for the 100th year as the "Center High Mounted Stop Lamp" or "Cyclops Brake Light" as it's more commonly known, becomes a permanent part of the Corvette. The Corvette Convertible returns after a 10 year hiatus.
The Model Center covers all Corvette model years and contains performance
figures, production figures, specifications and much more. :CAC

This was silly. What exactly did you "get" by doing this? You want me to not respond ever again in case it's one of these false questions? OK, you "got" it, I'll never respond again.

This is the kind of things they do over in DC. I thought you were better than that. I was wrong.

Bye-Bye

Unlike in DC we here at CAC have a sense of humour as well as taking the initiative to let the users know that there is alot of information here as well as the forums.

After all Ken could have just posted the link to the Tech Center, but nooooooo, he goes and adds some quality info, links and quotes, Not just another quicky.

We'll miss ya Don!
Mart:w

And while I'm at it, just when do you sleep or work on the vette Ken, 17,000 posts.:crazy

Kewl, keep up the good work.

Well sorry if I step on anyones toes here. But If I have a question about something I am going to ask it. That is what this forum is for. To ask questions and get answers from forum members I just don't see the need to bring up the model center, and the tech center etc... every time a simple question is asked. If it bothers people that much to respond to a "stupid" question or what not then why respond to it. JMHO.

I believe Ken was just trying to give an answer in his way, the answer to the question is there, as well as here from other members.

Here's the way I see it, Ken is an Admin of this site, therefore he should be letting people know about the varioous features of the site.

After all the site is free and here we are argueing because an administrator tried to give a user more for his own benefit.

He could have done something like this. From the "Model centre."

  • The major highlight of the 1986 model year was the re-introduction of the convertible.
  • There were only 4 Copper Metallic colored Corvettes built and all were coupes.
  • ABS became standard on all corvettes.
  • Aluminum cylinder heads were delayed half way through the model year due to cracking around the head attachment bosses which caused a redesign. As a result, all 1986 convertibles and late production coupes received the aluminum cylinder heads. The last 8,594 are believed to have received these heads. The aluminum cylinder heads resulted in an increase in horsepower to 235 hp; up 5hp from the previous model year.
  • The new Vehicle Anti Theft System (VATS) debuted as did the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) above the rear hatch glass.
  • 1986 wheel design changed slightly from the 1984-1985 model years. the wheel center section retained a natural finish vs. the black finish in 1984 and 1985.

Mart...I don't want to hurt your feelings but I wasn't talking to you. Why you've decided to respond as to what Ken was thinking is beyond me. VF87 and I responded to what we thought was a legit question from a member. Now you (not Ken) are giving us a ration of ****. So here's what I'd like...you to STFU.

Easy Does It

WOW! Why the underwear in a knot ? All Ken did was post some links where the information could be found. And he did it with a sense of humor. Any post can be missunderstood or taken the wrong way, just forget it, don't take it personally. CAC is to much fun and informitive to get all bent out of shape just cause something hit you wrong, cool it sleep on it and come back tomorrow. :D :grouphug: Ken,,,:upthumbs I think you do a great job here, we all benifit from you being here.

:BOW:CAC

:w

OK, No prob Don, now I know why your not on DC anymore.

I just like to stand by our administrators. And for the record you were the first to respond to Ken's post and take it the wrong way.

Have a great Day ...........................:D

Don,

Angry outbursts like this are not tolerated here. You will kindly refrain from speaking to other members in this fashion or all you'll be doing here is reading....not typing.

Since this is coming down to who can search the net better how about this, the high brake light was manditory for all "cars" from 86 onwards. Who knows the number/designation of the regulation that was put on the books to require this saftey feature? Persoanlly, I have no idea of what the answer is but I do know it was put in in 86.

Well.... I do believe we have covered the third brake light, now what..........

Awe who cares any subject on Vettes is OK with me.:lou :v

;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL :dance :dance ;worship ;worship

That's all I have to say about that.
Mart

Oh gawd, what did I start?

Thanks for the info on the brake light - just what I needed.

I have been on car forums for many years, and I should have known better than to ask a specification question without looking in the archives first. For some reason it just didn't occur to me.

I apologise to you all that my query started a thread that clearly has caused some distress.

Regards,

Adrian

No apologies needed, we all ask questions when the answers are already here, it's just that we all need a little reminder every now and then to go look around, the site is big and plentiful.
