Anyone have info on where I might be able to get a 3-5 inch high rise hood (above stock height) for an 82 corvette? Would like to keep same style of hood that came standard on the car but with the higher rise.
Any information would be appreciated.
It may not be 3.5" tall, but a buddy had a stock '77 with an L-82, who's hood was FAR taller than my '82 hood. It would still have (basically) the same factory 'lines' you're looking for.....
Does anybody make the 'outlaw-style' 4"/6" 'cowl-induction' hoods (like Chevelles & Camaros) for C3s? It'd DEFINITELY have a 'racy'-look to it, but 3.5" hoods aren't gonna look 'stock', either.....
I was told by Eckler's Technical Support personel to perform the following to determine the hood height needed:
1. Place a block of wood in the drivers & passenger fender recess (where the hood sits).
2. Adjust the blocks where they are even with the front of the air cleaner.
3. Lay a strait edge across the two blocks of wood and mesure the heights (+ or -) from the top of the air cleaner.
4. The sum of this measurment and the height of the block of wood is the height of hood needed to clear the air cleaner.
I would allow at least an additional 1/2" just for gp.
Thanks for all the info. Wouldn't be doing this unless I had too. Have a Edlebrock Performer RPM intake with a 700 Holley double pumper sitting on top. Needless to say, I don't have much choice in the matter. Finishing up this year long project (motor) this weekend then heading over to the dyno. Hoping for
400-450+ REAR WHEEL horsepower.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
I got my L-88 hood with the air-box from J.C. Whitney. I'm quite happy with it. It will work with a small block with an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap.
Do you remember the part number? Also, do you remember how many inches above stock you needed for your setup? Do you by any chance have pictures how it looks on the car. I also have a Edelbrock RPM Air Gap manifold; however, I am running a Holley Advenger 770cmf carburator.

Yeah,. the JCWHitney hood is the same as the one from ZIP. They're made by Legendry Cars. The hood is a lot cheaper from JC tho. I have one too and the quality is excellent, no fitment problems whatsover (not that I would mind probs since I bonded the whole front clip and hood together)
