When I turn on the headlights on 1969 vet the it pegs the volt meter on the gauge panal has any ane seen this before.

69 Corvettes don't have a volt meter, they have (sort of) an ammeter. The higher the electrical load on the system, the higher the discharge rate will be. If the engine is at idle and the alternator off line, this can show as a pegged meter. What reading do you get with the headlights on and the engine revved to say 2000 rpm?
