Before I start...I know.....I know......don't use a Holley. Well, I had no choice. The conversion from a Q-jet to a Holley 600 cfm was a major pain in the ***. One of the biggest problems was the throttle cable adjustment. Wound up having to fab my own throttle cable bracket, but thats a whole other story. My question is this. The carb actually ran great right out of the box, with the exception of the idle speed. After that was adjusted, I notice that under quick braking, the car seems like it almost wants to stall out. Is this a float related issue? I am not nuts about loosening the sight level plugs unless absolutely necessary. I know how Holley's like to leak.......any advice? The car for the most part runs and idles well once it gets some heat into it. Thanks.........

Two causes for that - if the primary (front) float is set too low, fuel can uncover the jets under hard braking and suddenly lean out; or, if the secondary (rear) float is set too high, hard braking can force fuel out of the secondary bowl vent tube and flood the secondaries. Just adjust the float levels - only takes a couple of minutes; set them for a fuel level about 1/16" below the bottom of the sight holes.
