HELP!
I have a 1966 sting ray coupe with a holley # 3367 carburetor. My problem is that when I shut the engine down ( temp at 175 ) gas drips down one venturi flooding the engine. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Paul.:confused

Typically incorrect (too high) float level or percolation (boiling of fuel after shutdown) will push gas out of two or all four of boosters in the venturis.

It would be highly unusual for this to happen from only one booster.

I think the first thing I'd do is pull off the carb and overhaul it using a Holley rebuild kit. Take special care to make sure that: the float levels are correct and there are no blockages in any of the circuits feeling the booster which DOES NOT dip fuel.

After reinstalling the carb, I'd inspect all the fuel lines to make sure none are touching parts of the engine which would allow them to absorb heat and pass it onto the fuel.

Fire up the engine, check for leaks, make the customary choke, idle and idle mixture adjustments and then road test.

If the dripping persists, recheck the float levels. If they are correct, then you need to do something to reduce the amount of heat the carb absorbs right after a shutdown.

holley carb

It may be something stuck in your float valve.

check to make sure the metering body or the main body where they fit together are not warped. if they are and you have no way of machining the main body flat or a jig to straighten the metering body try double gaskets in this area. also if the fuel tank is building up pressure because of the heat from the mufflers drill a 1/8" hole in the gas cap. you can check for pressure build up by removing the cap slowly after the car set for 10/15 minutes and listen to if you have a sound of pressure being released

THANKS GUY'S:
I HAVE DECIDED TO SEND THE CARB OUT AND HAVE IT SERVICED. YOU'VE BEEN A GREAT HELP. PAUL.

i think hib was correct....a rebuild kit would have done it...i had this problem which was cured by installing new o-rings on the float inlet valves....gas will leak past the o-rings once the engine is shut down because of residual high pressure on the inlet side and there's no gas being drawn into the engine any longer

my guess is that it was a bit hard starting after you shut it off for a short period

...either way, it'll be fixed
