Home from the paint shop

Brought her home today and she looks great -- better then before the over spray incident. For those coming in late here's a link to what happend:

Anyway, the front emblem is on back order, so I have to take here back next week (I have the Callaway inserts ready to go). When I do they have to do a little more buffing on the hood, they found a place on one of the headlight covers they felt needed a little more work. Then when I got her home and dusted her off, under the lights I could see a couple spots on the hood that need to be done a little better -- not that I'm picky or anything. But, overall, they did a realy good job ... let me know what you think :beer

Looks great. Is it normal for the exhaust to hang that low on the back? It appears lower than normal or at least low enough that it might catch a speed bump if driven over too fast. My concern is that going into secure areas I have a ton of METAL speed gates and bumps to gently roll over!

It's the angle of the pic, the pipes are only about 1/4 inch below the bumper indent, any closer and it would probably melt the bumper. Neve had a problem with my exhaust hiting anything -- only me front spoiler, I have to be extremely careful going in and out of drive ways or over speed bumps. :beer
 
OK, great. Thanks for the info. With all the nasty, tire punching radio controled spikes I travel across I want to be sure I can roll over with a B2K when I return.
 
Well, washed and waxed her this morning. The swirl marks I saw in the hood came right out with Zaino Z5. After I getting done, I've reassessed my opinion of the job they did -- they did outstanding. Here's a couple of close ups that might show the quality a little better ...

If you can't tell, I'm pretty damn happy with how this whole thing worked out. When I first bought my car it was probably around a 7 out of 10. Now, after all the work I've done and this paint job, I'd have to give her a solid 9, maybe even a 9.5.

Looks awesome but I'm not sure you should be waxing it just yet.

Paint needs to cure.

Anyways, it's a great job. What did it cost?

That's what I thought, but I talked to the shop and they said the paint they use is as hard as it's going to get after a few days (painting was done the Thursday before last). The project manager actually told me to take her home and wash and wax her. He was telling me that paints have come a long way and they actually buffed her out yesterday. I remember just about 6 years ago when I had my '82 stripped and painted, I had to take it back about 3 weeks later to have it done. :beer
 
Interesting, I always thought the solvents/thinners had to have time to evaporate out of the paint. They would know and would be foolish to advise you otherwise. Looks great, it has me excited about painting mine. I've done everything but the paint on mine so this summer that's my project.

I wish I was still stationed at Fort Huachuca as there are so many good paint shops in Arizona and the climate is great for painting anything.

I thought the same thing; but they guarantee the paint for the life of the car, so I'll take they're word for it. They used the BASF Diamont paint system. I'm familiar with PPG and few others, but this is a new to me. :beer
 
BASF - Diamont continues to lead the industry in improved technology. Diamont's patented DC5100 clear has revolutionized the clear-coating process by reversing drying technology and reducing drying time by fifty percent. Conventional clears cure from the surface of the vehicle up, requiring at minimum 12 hours to cure before buffing. Using DC5100, the vehicle is baked to maintain metal temperature for ten minutes at 120 degrees to achieve a surface cure. The unique characteristic of DC5100, is that the clear cures from the surface down. Allow the car to be buffed two hours after the car has been baked.


Yep, sure enough you've got some high speed paint on that Corvette.

So what did it cost?
 
Thanks for the great info, makes me feel real good about the place I picked. The final bill (to my insurance company) was $7,180.
 
Man, saw that first pic and thought, "What in the world happened to that hood?" Then I realized it was the reflection of your garage door! Wow, what a job. Looks absolutely fantastic. Nice shoes, Dude!
