Home Made Ramps?

Ok, I know someone here must have a picture of what I'm talking about... I'm going to make a set of "step" ramps for my Vette, and I'd like to see how others have done it. I'm thinking of using a 2X10, and making 3 'levels', the first 4' long, second would be 2-3 feet and third would be 1-2', hopefully raising me up enough to do a simple lube/oil change... Help

Wouldn't it be better to go to Walmart and but a set of rhino ramps. They are only about 25 bucks.

I got a set, the front spoiler hits , and I dont want to take any chances... For the $8 it cost me for 2 2X10's I'm not worried about it

Cement blocks?? Well, the garage is a cement floor, so I'm figuring that'd be fine... If I used cement blocks with them, I'd stand no chance of driving up on them.... The car's already too low for my jack! I made up a set tonight, they came out good.. Test is to see if it gives me enough clearance for an oil change !

I have had a set in service for years - built them in 1989
I will take some digi. pics tomorrow and post - a couple 2x12's cut to length like you say, works well.

JBaker, my front spoiler hits my Rhino Ramps as well. What I do is put a 1x6 on the floor in front of the ramp and it raises the car far enough before it gets onto the ramp so the spoiler doesn't hit. You still need to take care when backing down, but that's it. If you're really low, you could step up by fastening a 1x6 to a 2x6 and laying THAT in front.

To give proper credit, I think Ken on here is the one who first told me about the 1x6 trick...

Jeez, those things must weigh a ton! The Rhinos are much easier to handle I imagine.

Yes Rich, I use a 1" piece of plywood to get the front air dam over the front of the ramps.

Cool!! What did you use, an old staging plank?? Those look like they'd get you high enough to pull the tranny out, good job

I built wooden ramps. 3- "2bys" tall. 2nd and 3rd tier are the same dimentions (8"X18") and the long one about 36".
Actually, it works inverted, the long board on top. angeled up from the wheel raised. As the car drives up, the long board gently pivots as the wheel is rolls overtop the half which is over the smaller sections. This makes it very easy to use and helps prevent driving over the ramp because there is no sudden release forward as the wheel passes the incline onto the flat portion of other type ramps.
