Nose Emblem

I recently purchased a new gas door emblem for my Corvette. Of course, after putting it on the car, the nose emblem looks old and faded compared to the new gas door emblem. I cannot find a new nose emblem anywhere. I wrote to one of the major Vette parts suppliers and they told me that the 1980 nose emblem was the same, except it's silver. Well, I ordered it and received it today. It is not the same. It is much bigger. Even if I paint it black, I don't think it would look original. Does anyone know where a person could find a nose emblem for a 1981 Corvette? I've run out of places to look.

The 81 nose emblems have been discontinued by the vendors for quite some time now (reason unknown)

You might want to check this, and other forums for anyone :eek parting out a 1981.

Expect to pay a premium for this, I've seen many posts in the past for this exact same problem.

You could also run a "search" for someone who could recondition yours. I remember once reading there's a member here that does this, unfortunately I can't remember who.

You are doing the same as I did for a year, I searched every website and had no luck. I called the company that manufactured the emblems for GM and there were no plans to make after market parts. I was very fortunate to find a new one at Carlisle last year and they are asking premium dollars. I would think that Carlisle is your best chance of finding one, its a lot of asking and digging in boxes but you never know it might be there. Take the trip its worth it, meeting CAC members and finding that one part you need. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks chockey!! Excuse my ignorance, but where can I locate Carlisle? Is it a company and do they have a website or a contact number?? Any further info would be greatly appreciated!

Carlisle as it is usually refered to is the Corvettes at Carlisle car show which is about 20 miles west of Harrisburg Pa. The show is the 3rd weekend of August each year and there is about 80 acres of corvettes and corvette vendors.

Under Forums go to the Lounge and look for North East Events, there are discussions about the Corvettes at Carlisle. There are usually about 5000 Vettes there +/- and a large gathering of CAC members. Each year that I have gone I have never seen more than 1/2 of what is there, yes it is that big, its an experience to OD on Vettes. The weekend there is difficult to explain but once you have been to one it becomes a yearly necessity.

I don't know where in Canada you live, if it Ontario or Quebec once you cross into New York State its about 5 hours to Harrisburg Pa. I will look for the website but try typing in www.carsatcarlisle.com in Yahoo, the are 10 different car shows there each year and it is a real happening to go there.
If your journey passes you through Binghamton, NY on Route 81 South let me know, I plan on going down on saturday for the day and maybe we can follow each otherdown or even ride together.

I know RandyVette needs a hood emblem for his 1981, and I need one also. In fact mine was hit by a rock the other day and wham! the glass or plastic left wing boke & came out!

If anyone is going to Carlisle this year, please look for two of these hood emblems. One for RandyVette if he wants one, but the second for myself. I will buy it for 15% more than what you pay for it. My vette looks really bad without one, I feel naked driving down the road. Kinda like that feeling you have when everyone is looking at your vette while you drive down the road enjoying the curves, and the car needs a good washing. You just feel like you are letting them down somehow.

So if anyone goes to Carlisle please find me a hood emblem for my 1981.

Every once in a while there comes up for sale a NOS nose emblem. Be advised when they do, they usually fetch upwards of $65 and up At one time I had an extra one, but sent it to a member in Texas.. and I hope he appreciated it!!!

If I run across one I'll be sure to latch on to it It would be great if some small Chevy dealer somewhere had about 10 of these in stock inventory and ran across them

Keep the faith these emblems are out there, just keep your eyes open and keep asking about them

i picked up a new one on Ebay. I forget the exact price, but it was over $50. I think closer to $70 That was last fall, still havent put it on yet.

I just bought a hood emblem on ebay. I had been looking for over a year and had seen several on ebay before this one came up. I was unwilling to pay the $80-$90 that they had received for the emblem. I ended up getting mine for $46 and free shipping. I do have the luxury of waiting for my parts since I'm still in the process of restoring my Vette....wait is that a luxury or misery?
