What is the primary purpose of hood insulators? Do they mainly protect the hood from the heat of the motor? Do they mainly quieten the engine noise? Why did some early C3s have them but no C4s have them unless they were being shipped to Canada? However, C5s have them! If you have an insulator, can it be painted with high heat paint to change the color or improve the look of it? Anybody have any info or ideas about this topic?

The use of underhood insulation is mainly used to quiet excessive engine noise. I haven't a clue as to why the C3s and C5s have it but not the C4, except that maybe it had something to do with the clamshell design that prevented the use of underhood insulation. As to whether it can be painted or not, I'll leave that for others to answer - I can't. ;)
