Aloha gang.
Just a little backround,i have modded a few c4's,and my c5,and all sorts of cars. I'm very mechanically inclinded.
However,i can not for the life of me get my hood open. I made a tool that looks just like the vendor hood cable tools,no luck,i borrowed a hood cable tool from a friend,he got from ecklers, hours later, still no luck. Just a butchered hood seal. Took off the side panel for the battery access,no way...... I know it's the clip on the driver side latch, because when i pull the hood latch inside the car,the passenger side hood latch will release, just not the driver side. I will need to get under the hood soon to change my oil and tranny fluid. Anyone find another way under the hood?
I have custum paint,so if i cut the hood off,i'll have to buy and ship a new hood to hawaii, install it and paint it. Thats probably around the same cost as the blue book on my 89..lol

If you're fairly agile with long slender arms you ncan reach up from the wheel well and disengage from there. My mechanic did that when neither of us could get that bent rod gimmick to work.

Or .. pull the cable directly where it's attached to the pull tab by the right knee. Use pliers for a good grip.

Thanks for the reply. I have long, sorta slender arms, did you guy's reach up from the side panel were the battery is? I have a thick fender wall liner that will not let me reach into the engine or battery area. I tried to pull the cable with pliers, thats when i noticed the right side pop,but not the left side.So the cable seems to be broken off the left side latch. I'm off today,so i'm going to go try this again. I also need to change a lite bulb, can't even get in to do that lol...

Yah he laid on his back and reached up through the battery area, fiddled around and lo. the hood popped free. They then replaced the cables and it's been OK since. However I'm gonna attach that wire thingy to the latch and stretch the other ends across the wiper rest area so I can pull those and pop the hood when I need.

cool. Thanks,i'm definatly going to fab something up. I open my hood alot. Soon i'll be replacing my motor as well. Don't need hood issues..Haven't had a chance to get to the car yet.But it's still early here..
