This has probably been asked many times previously so I apologize if it is redundant.

My hood latch cable has stretched. Is there an easy way to adjust the cable or should I just replace it? I'd prefer to limp it along for a while if I can.

Thanks

You can limp it for a while but if the cable is in bad shape in any way, I would replace it. Reason being, if it breaks, its no fun to replace.

But, if you really want to, there is two little cable clamps on each side of the hood. Loosen the nut and have someone with a pair of vice grips pull on the loose end to create more tension on the cable, meanwhile you drink a beer until the person gets tired of pulling on the cable, then tighten the nut.

This worked for me and my hood opens quite well now.

The person that was stretching the cable is currently uninterested in helping me out with any more car projects.

See ya at the Rod Run!

Man I cant spell this early in the morning (two edits later!)

Thanks. I was thinking that was how it was going to go. But wanted to make sure. I ordered one of those hood opener thingies from Corvette Central just in case.

Lets figure out how to hook up. I am planning on driving my '84 from Phx for giggles. I am interested in how long it will take me to make it to Temecula.

Drop me a note and we'll figure something out. I know of a place that has good greasy burgers but nice cold barley soda.

:)

For a stop gap measure I pulled the end of the cable away from the lever and tied a tyrap on the cable then let it rest back against the lever, just enough room...had to do it this way because you could not adjust the slack in the cable anymore due to it being stretched.
Also you an get a new end and cut some of the cable and reattach a crimp on end for the cable, instead of replacing the complete cable.
Or look in the yellow pages for stainless stranded cable and take yours out and they can make 2 new cables for a lot less the new system.

Good idea on stainless cable. I'll get out the phonebook and call around.

I remember greasy burgers!

I dont really enjoy them as much now that I am vegan. Im sure I can find something to eat there though!

Yeah, we should hook up and grab a beer while we are up there. I may be vegan but I am also Irish/German!
:drink :puke
