Hood on a '65

Rick

i'm doing that, plus I've heard a rumor of one sitting around in a local paint shop that is being unused I am checking into too. Supposebly they pulled it off a show car because of a very minor flaw but it's probably fine for anything other than a full-out judging car. This place does bodywork and painting on major showcars and if anything is less than 120% perferct they pull it and replace it so if they do have the hood it's probably fine for a driver car like mine.

Just my plan! If I find a Stinger hood I'll have it hanging up until I can use it - like you say, they are almost like art! :)
If I ever do get a chance to have to repaint the whole car and thereby use the hood I'll hang up the original hood the same way.

Barry, just keep me posted on when your car will be ready and c5vetter and I are planning to come to your shop and maybe his "Lady" will be done and we can all cruise back towards home. Then you can see my stinger up close and personal.

.......- not only a non-original hood on a fully restored car but a wrong hood for the engine AND wrong for the year! LOL........
well, it's your car, you can do as you please, but i personally don't like mis-matching year specific midyear parts, (hoods, side pipes, wheels/hubcaps).... i think it looks goofy. i'd keep your '65 looking like a '65 :)

but whatever you do, keep your original parts, so the car can be put-right again later.

PS: i little advice...... if you really want a '67, buy one, while you still can. You'll be much happier than after transplanting some '67 parts into/on to, your 65. Like mentioned above, for a couple days there was a shortage of SB hoods so they stuck some 427 hoods on the SB cars, so......

In almost all cases I agree with you completely, but as I've mentioned I do love the look of that stinger hood. At this point from what most people are saying with the paint matching going to be a real problem I probably won't do it. IF I was able to get someone to match the paint correctly and therefore do it I would by all means keep the factory hood so it could be put back on later if needed.
