Friday I was at corvette expo and was checking out this sweet red 71. The hood was up and I noticed that there was a bolt through the hood support to keep the hood from coming down. I had never seen this or thought about doing it. Makes sense to me now.

Does anyone do this?

I had the hood slam shut at a show once after the wind caught it and tipped it forward enough to uncatch the latch while it was up. Heard it from ten cars away. Luckily it didn't damage anything. I usually don't have my hood up at a show anyway, but that time was showing off the Lingenfelter 427 under the hood.
Actually, the bolt is a good idea so someone doesn't close the hood "for you". Also a good safety measure if you're working under the hood, and especially in front of the hood, like on midyear headlights.
