I'm really not sure how to explain this in writing but here goes...I'm a pretty tall guy with long legs so my feet are really, really close to the fuse box on my 81.. One day I noticed that there's a thick orange wire hanging down out from under the dash. I also noticed that the end of the wire has old sodder on it and that there's a (for the lack of knowing the real name) "fuse port" or "connector" that looks to be missing a wire in the fuse box. Is it possible that I could've stepped on the wire and it separated from the fuse port or connector? I can't really see the writing on the fuse box to know to which area of the car it would control but I do know that parts of my center console the car, i.e. lighter, heat and air, and defrost are all now not working. Hopefully someone understands what i'm trying to say and can give me some direction.. lol..

Google '81 corvette fuse box' under images, lots of pictures come up, you might be able to get some idea from there.

I don't know if this will help, here is a copy of the 1981 Fuse Panel ;)

There's three largish orange wires there. Does this one have 12v on it? (With ignition on)
I'm guessing there isn't. In which case it's come out of the fuse marked "ctsy clk"

If memory serves me correctly there can be a large 12 gauge wire that feed the high blower relay. I would plug it into one of the "batt" labeled sockets on the fuse panel which is 12v all the time and see what does work. If a circuit starts working that should not be with the key off (basically any accessories that only work with the key in run or accy's) then install the wire on an "ign" terminal on the fuse panel and see what works with the key on. I would also check for parasitic drain at the battery after performing the operations. Good luck with it. :)

That's a red wire. Can't remember if it's at the fuse panel or not. I think that it may start at one of the plugs in the engine bay.

I'll jump under my dash to look for you tgis afternoon. But as it is hanging in front of the fusebox it it plugged into the front and not the rear so not ot many options.

Greetings Peter

Its not part of the capacitor that goes in parallel with one of the fuses. Maybe radio fuse?

Crap, forgot to look sorry!
I'll try again tonight

Greetings Peter
It's ok Peter.:thumb
Just checked on mine. I can only see one orange wire that it might be (the others just seem too hard to knock out accidentally)
It's for the key warning buzzer. This is on the same circuit I mentioned above. So if this wire was to come into contact with ground it would blow that fuse.

Let us know how you get on.

This is a picture I took 10 years ago. Should be the same as it is now.

So I also have one (thin) orange wire for the buzzer but also a thick orange wire I think it's connected to the BATT connector.
And sorry, forgot it again.. :ugh

Greetings Peter
