Hi, all you Gurus out there. Educate me!!
This is my first Vette, so I'm not sure about this. After driving around the village at a 'normal' pace, I noticed the console around the shifter gets pretty warm to the touch. Normal??
I haven't noticed this before 'cause I just got it about a month ago and haven't had it out much. Anything about this would be appreciated.:BOW ;help
Thanks,
Gordon

Congrats on your 1st Corvette. Yes, it normal for the area around the shifter to get quite warm.
This probably will be the 1st of many questions since you're new to the "Vette" world.
Don't be afraid to ask, thats what we all are here for, to help one another understand and enjoy our cars.

Thanks, FX GS. That's a load off! Is this a great place or what?

That's the built-in coffee warmer... you can't even BUY that on most luxo boats! ;)

Yes, it's normal. Couple places sell insulation to go under the center carpet, but it's a pain to remove said rug.

Good choice on year...

Yes, it is as normal as it comes!

I'm a fairly new vette owner too. I bought my 86 coupe a couple months back. The area around the shifter gets pretty warm on mine too. This site has been very informative and helpful for me. Welcome and thanks to everyone out there.

Thanks to all of you. It's nice to find a place like this.
Guess that 'warmer' will be nice in the winter, uh, never mind.......
I'm in Texas. We only have 3 seasons. :CAC you:_rock

There have been several threads on how to fix this. I used duct insulation, 1/4" gray foam sticky sided tape with an aluminum back. I got it from Home Depot it comes in various width's. I got rolls of 16"wide, removed the carpet, which is quite easy, and covered the whole interior. I then found some new stuff that has bubble pack covered on both sides with aluminum and put a layer of that on top of the other, then replaced the seats and carpets.
Now, not only is the console cool but you get almost no outside noise or resonance. Beethoven's 9th never sounded so good....

Unbelievable:upthumbs Eagle, once agian, You are the MAN:_rock Great info !:beer

Great info Eagle. Me I dont want the extra weight that it would add. It might slow me down.00000000000000000000000001 in the 1/4!:D
