Hot Wire Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

l have been trying to find a hot wire by the front headlights (drivers side) for aver a month. I picked up a wire tester that you attach to a metal bracket and stick the other side (needle tip) into a wire. If it hits a hot wire it will light up.

So far nothing has lit up. l turned the key to accessories and what l need is a wire up front that is hot all the time.

l was told to look for a pink wire with a black stripe on it, well l found only one and it's by the firewall by the wiper. l even tested that one and bingo nothing.

Maybe l'm not sticking it into the wire far enough. What l'm afraid of is splitting the wire too much causing a problem.

Some times l feel l have the IQ of a carrot.

What l'm doing is installing a device for daylight running lights.

The instructions are excellent, except l cannot find a hot wire that is hot while the engine is on.

I decided to invest in a Chilton's or Haynes manual inorder to find the right hot lead. For some reason l can build a house, but when it comes to electrical things l am in the blind.

Is one better then the other? Haynes claims they have electrical wiring diagrams.

Make sure the other end is grounded........its hard to find a ground on a vette but it can be done.....after you find a good ground, check it with the poss. side of the battery to make sure the ground is working if you have a good ground then the light will light up and then and only then go on to find your hot wire.......good luck

Your right l remember attaching one end to a fiberglass section that l thought was metal.
