Maybe some Newcastle

Yes Please :L it's firewater, try putting it in your gas tank instead of drinking it and you might gain a tenth or two :L

Yes I can be bribed. Get your hands on a new throttle body gasket and while you are there ask about the price for a new IAC (idle air control) valve. If the IAC is only a couple of bucks just buy a new one, if its expensive then we can try cleaning and adjusting the one you have. also pick up a can of throttle body cleaner at any auto parts store.

Cheapest way to get into 13's:

1) Get Sawzall.
2) Cut hole in floorboard large enough for both legs to fit through.
3) Get good pair of shoes.
4) Stick legs with new shoes on feet through hole.
5) Make like Fred Flinstone.

I was unsure if the old lady could take it being 18 years old and all.

OMG that's funny! 18 is old??!!
that car is barely out of puberty yet. A lot of the guys in the C1 & C2 forum hit the drag strip a lot and our cars are a LOT older than yours. worried at being 18........... ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

BTW, octane booster is nothing but a complete waste of money for you, it does noting. Forget the marketing claim BS on the bottle that says it will boost your octane level by 4, 5, 6 points. At most it MIGHT boost it by .1 - yes, thats a point in front of the one. Total waste of time and money.

running the higher octane of racing fuel should not hurt your motor at all. Modern motors with all their computer stuff in them will automatically adjust for proper retard and advance of the timing. Putting in the highter octane will allow the system to advance higher but it will also only go so far - never enough to cause engine damage. It's kind of like filling up your Honda or Toyota with premium 93 or 94 octane - any performance increase may be "iffy" but it won't harm anything. In your case you may actually see a small difference in performance but again no harm.

18............ ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

I honestly think that gears are not the way to go on your car when you factor $ / gain. You would be far better off <cost-benefit wise> in just throwing a small shot of nitros in it. That will send you well into the 13's and you will have some money left for an engine rebuild when the time comes.

Spending 2 grand on gears won't get you anywhere if the engine needs a rebuild, and with 150k miles it may not take much racing for it to need a rebuild.

Beyond all of that, you need an end goal in mind, not just a short term goal. If your end goal is to have the car run X fast in the quarter, then figure out what that will take power-wise. then figure out how you want to get that power. With these cars there are 10 different ways to accomplish the same goal, and if you don't plan properly you will waste a lot of money on stuff that won't work for your setup (and more importantly your budget).

The rebuild is set for january after My christmas bonus. I am leaning towards a regular rebuild with possibly a different cam. I am not looking for a 10 sec car, Just a quick daily driver that I can take to the track a couple times a month and run fast.

So basically I want to get it in the 13's now. And then after the rebuild, run about a 100 shot at the track whenever I go to put me in the low 13's or even high 12's. I won't run the 100 shot now with 147k on the engine cause I'm afraid I'll end up with a blown up engine.

In my opinion, you don't do all that work just to have the same little 'ol stock cam in there.:D

As for Dave's suggestion, all I'll say is that he must be talking to the Junk too much.:L:L:L

it's usually about the same cost to do a mild build-up as it is to go straight stock.

My major point is to figure out what the car will be in the end. If you are doing nitros anyway, you can probably pull the stock gears and keep the better gas mileage (and with the price of gas, that could help the wallet!).

but if you do gears and even a moderate cam, you may be in the power area of the cam and burning gas like nuts when you are just cruising down the highway.

I wouldn't suggest a 100 shot now, but you can always jet a nitros kit down... throw a 50 shot in now, then rebuild the engine to be nitros friendly and you can boost it to even 150+ shot later if you want.

Just some food for thought. I know it would kill me to throw gears in my car, and not want to drive it because the gas mileage sucks:(

Heres how I get into the 13's

I have been watching this post for some time......All I have to do is pull 2 plug wires off and it will run a 13....

Real dragcars don't have doors :L ;LOL

nice setup you have there. nah we were just airing her out on a 5.45 pass at 263 mph at E-Town back in 03 :D TA/D Div 1 NHRA. more pics on my cardomain listed in my sig on page 5.

I honestly don't think nitrous is worth it for your car, 87Black. You can get mid-low 13's on the engine and be plenty streetable. Mad-Mic is a good example and he is doing it all naturally aspirated. Nitrous is fine for race cars but IMHO is silly on the street. One thing goes wrong and you lose the whole kettle of fish. Had an Iroc come into our shop once with a big hole in his aftermarket fiberglass hood. Timing was just off and he blew the intake clean through the hood. Just my .02

Alcohol.....Got to love it!..Did you ever get to make a pass in it?

unfortunatly no :( going into the off season we talked about me taking his place as the driver and him just tuning but it didn't work out that way. he had liver cancer and it just took over his body.

he always knew i had no fear when it came to speed. he's where i got the name Mad-Mic. i did get to take a spin in his lil LT1 355 all steel 69 camaro leaving off the T-Brake and throwing the wheels up about a foot and a half running to a 10.86 @ 127 mph.
