How do you get shift knob off

Anyone know how the black ball comes on the shifter in a '77 auto. Thanks, TC

Turn the silver button out and then the ball turns off as well.

Yeah, I was almost sure it was a screw on ball but mine wasn't comming off. I thought there had to be some trick to it. I finally got it with a bit more muscle. Turns out it was rusted tight. Thanks, TC

I wouldn't complain about being rusted tight. The knob on my 95 Ford fell off in my hand a week ago during a 3rd to 4th shift. :bang

A little super glue and I was back in business!
