Me again I am still trying to source my parts for my hybrid car build.

I am going to be purchasing a dana 44 rear end used .So my question is how can you tell them apart? And then from there how do you tell what ratio is in it?

Thanks again guys I post some photos when I get started

Sorry, I can't answer all your questions, but if you're buying one used, the seller should know the ratio, or at least the year. With the year you should be able to get the ratio. Here's a pic of a 36 and 44 together. Note the cifferences in the cases configurations and overall size. The 44 is much stouter.

Thank you for the information But whitch one is whitch in the pictures?

From what I understand, there were different series available in both the 36 and 44 as well; the cases are different with the end result being the ring gear thickness.

If you want to be sure of the actual gear ratio, open her up and count the teeth on the gears. Divide the big one by the little one, and that's exactly it.

If you don't want to open it up, you could approximate by turning the thing and counting revolutions.
