How do you keep the engine and compartment clean?

I use a pressure washer on all my cars.....no problems at all. Just use some common sense

I was under the impression that Simple Green can cause the aluminum to get dis-colored ....
never had a problem....maybe if you don't rinse it completely off or use it when the engine is hot.............:w

I don't think I would use Simple Green on the engine. Some of those cleaners remove oils out of the plastics, this makes them very brittle, to the point of breaking. I've heard stories about spraying the plastic springs of the Vette the watching the front or rear end collapse. All this is just hear say but I would use caution when using Simple Green or Purple Magic.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I have been using a 50/50 solution of simple green on my car and motorcycle engines for years with no apparent ill effect. Using caution to avoid paint and a comprehensive rinse seems to make the job really easy.

Here is what I have been doing for years. :cool

- On a cold engine.

- Wet down with a water hose using light pressure.

- With engine still wet, Simple Green the entire engine and engine bay.

- Let sit for 5 minutes and wash off.

- Repeat Simple Green.

- Let sit for 5 minutes and wash off.

- With everything still wet...., cover the ENTIRE engine and engine bay with Armor All. Really soak it down.

- Close the hood, start the engine and drive around for about 15 minutes.

This really works. When I traded in my beloved :BOW 1996 Impala SS for my Z06, the dealership couldn't believe that I had 136K miles on it.

That picture of your vette looks familiar. I mean the location. When I was looking for a sports car, before I decided on the best decision I've ever made, I looked at Porche. The dealership in Nashua had an area that reminds me of where your vette is parked in the picture.
