I was just wondering if anybody has tried to refinish their door sill covers? These are the covers that are black plastic with white corvette lettering.

Iam trying to fix the faded white letters that say CORVETTE. I figure either repainting or possibly attaching vinyl lettering on top?

Anybody with any tips or tricks to post, would kindly be appreciated

thanks again

I had been thinking about this for some time. There is a product that one would use on glass windows during painting to make clean up easier. The product is wiped on from an applicator and scraped of rather easily. If I had a means to test this, after masking off the major areas, I would apply this product to the top plastic surfaces leaving the letter areas exposed, then paint the letters and let dry. I would then peel the other stuff off from around the letters. Caveat Emptor, but just an idea to kick around.

XtremeVette,

That’s a nice looking ‘90 you have there. Here’s two more ways to investigate. The first is very similar to KOPBETs’ suggestion.

I noticed in your profile that you are a graphic designer, you should not have much difficulty locating liquid airbrush mask. I doubt if you will be able to locate it at a Michaels or a craft store, I think you may have to go to a professional art/artists supply store to locate it.

Liquid airbrush mask probably will not harm your plastic sills, just paint it on, spray your paint, let paint dry, then carefully remove the liquid mask. It will rub off just by using your finger or a rubber pickup. When removing, it will resemble the glue you would see that secures a direct mail piece together (otherwise known as “boogies”).

One other suggestion, would be to locate a rubber roller that a print maker would use, (again, a professional art/artist supply store might be the best place). If your “Corvette” lettering is raised you can mask-off around the letters as best as you can, then run your roller through white paint and roll across the top.

Let us know how it goes!
