Im installing a a new shifter boot but i need to take apart the reverse lockout in order to pass the new boot over top. How about do i go about doing this?
Thanks

I hate to beat a dead horse but you really should get a GM service manual for your car. I have one for my ZR1 and it is invaluable. Not sure if it is the same procedure as the Z has a ZF tranny.

ya ive been meaning to get one actuallly. Just havent got around to it yet:upthumbs

First carefully remove the trans control lever button use a small common screw driver. then remove the cotter pin under the button. The shifter knob then can be removed. Next there is a socket set screw in the slot at the back of the shifter reverse inhibitor ring. Remove that and take off the boot. Of coarse you first have to take off the console trim plate. Hope this helps.

I dont see a socket set screw.....unless im looking in the wrong place.

at the back facing the dash or seats? Is the screw really tiny? Thanks for the quick replies!

Facing the seats and it is small enough to fit in the chanel

all i can see is a tiny hole. Could that be the screw in there, its hard to tell.

Ah i didnt know what that was. Thank you very much. Ill go and take it out!
