I have often been asked how I can get away with 6 ½ inch backspacing and Twin Turbo provided me with a good picture to compare our frames, his unmodified and mine modified.
This is Twin Turbo’s frame unmodified in the area right around the spring pocket.
This is my frame with the area at the front of the spring pocket cut out. Before you start worrying about weakening this area the whole area is plated over with ¼ inch plate and one of the plates passes through the rear firewall and is tied into the roll cage.
This cut out, the fact that I run coil overs all around along with the offset trailing arms allows me to get away with 6 ½ inch offset rims or allows a 10 inch rim and tire to totally fit under the stock fender.
