How is getting in/out of a C5 compared to the C4?

I own a couple of of C4s & was contemplating getting a C5(I have my eye on a 2002 Coupe). My biggest pet peeve with the c4s was the difficulty getting in/out of the car. I was always hiting my foot on the dash or the door sill. Can anyone comment on the c5s?

I still catch the door sill occasionally, but not as often as in my C4(s). Now I have to watch out for the speaker grill(s) on both doors. I know they are there, so I am careful, however... passengers that are not familiar with the layout of C5s get briefed on where to put their feet... thank you.

We've had 3 C4's, and still have the '96 Grand Sport, and just bought a C5. There's no doubt that it's much easier to get out of a C5!! You are not sitting in a "pit" like you do in the C4...therefore, you don't have to literally hoist yourself up and out. I find it much easier!!

The In's and Out's

I've owned four Corvettes over the years - two C2's, a C3 and the current C5. They're all a little challenging to get in and out of. But the C5 is the easiest. Of course it's"real" easy when the top is down.

Note to Eliane:

That's a great picture of both the Vettes. Nice that we are finnally getting some decent weather. Let's all try to meet at Carlisle in August. I assume you two will drive the new one this year.

Remo,

Yes, we are driving the new one to Carlisle...and most definitely we'll be planning at least one get-together in Carlisle!! Guy and I will coordinate something with CAC folks...maybe dinner and surely a cocktail or two at the Clarion!!

when i used to drive mum around in the c4, she compared it to getting out of a bathtub...pretty good analogy..:D :)

the c5 is wayyyyyyyy easier.:cool

Ease of getting in/out and room for 2 sets of golf clubs (and then some) are 2 key reasons why I sold my C4 and bought the C5 coupe.

I'm 62 and had a C3,C4,an now a C5. After driving and getting in and out of the C5 , I was sold. I know I'm going to take heat for this , but at my age don't care. The C5 is an old man's car with power, there I said it. Good luck Jim.

I'm not that old ....only 43 years old yet getting in and out of the C5's a breeze especially compared to the C4 so please don't feel old saying its easier to get out of a C5 versus a C4..and that a C5 is an old mans car. Its not...its just well designed..(PS..I felt the C4 was a tough car to get in and out of with its high sill design)

I admire the C4..yet the chassis design change on the C5 allows a tremendous leap in ease of ingress and exit...

Its pretty much like getting in and out of any sports car now.

The memory package makes it even easier.

Remember..the new xlr is corvette based and the average customer age is much higher than the Vette..same ease of getting in and out too...

I bet the average age of xlr owners is 80 or more..(kidding of course but you get the idea..) ;)

Jim...bravo for saying it like it is!! I love it!

Notes From The Home

Elaine, Jim,

I couldn't agree more. When I read your comments I almost spit up my "prune juice". "Man alive, I love my C5". Damit, has anyone seen my cane?

Hi To All Readers, et. al.,
An old man's car?!?!?!?!!?!!? I bought it to pick up girls. Is there any other reason to buy a Vette? Any girls out there to go for a ride? Please? Any?
Actually, I bought the 2003 Vette because it the 50th model year. I would be way too old for the 50th Mustang (unless H. Berry came with it) or the 50th Thunderbird or the 50th Viper. The way I see it my Vette became a collectors item as soon as it rolled off the assembly line. It is a cool car. It is fun car. I get an adrenaline rush every time ( no make that each and every time) I drive it. Girls, I have a passenger seat open, but don't expect me to wait long.
As to getting in and out of it, yes it is more difficult than the Buick Century I have. But, the Buick cannot handle the road, traffic, nor turns the way the Corvette can. I'll duck the Buick flames now.

I traded a Buick Century in for my Vette. :D :eyerole

I couldnt agree more with your obvervations.

Never had a C4 but I can tell you I am partially disabled and have owned alot of other high end sports cars/luxury cars and find my C5 to have the most comfortable seating posistion. As for getting in and out when you purchase your C5 there is a product called the window valet it is a simple plug in item and allows you to get out of the car with the windows down and then 3 clicks of the key fob after you get out the windows go up and the door lock and alarm is set. Its the only way I can get out of my car when parked in my tiny garage

"familyman" on the prowl

Is it just me or does anyone else find "justafamilyman" a liitle confused. His handle would indicate that he's a family man. But he claims he bought a Vette, if you'll excuse the expression, as a "vehicle" to pick up girls.

One can never tell about a person's screen name.... maybe he's looking to start his first family... or maybe a second. Ask him and maybe he will provide the answer inquiring minds want to know. LOL

Hi To All,
Oy vey.......
Ok, I don't know Hebrew, but Mel Brooks and Woody Allen both use that phrase.
Remo: sorry you didn't get the joke. Yea, a beautiful woman in the passenger seat would be great, but that will -not- stop me from enjoying my Vette. I was more making fun of a sterotype about Corvettes.
IH2LOSE: concerning the "window valet" - is this an addon or something GM "forgot" to mention in the manual? If it is an addon, how can I look into getting it?
Remo: whether or not I am in fact a "family man" is very immaterial. That I am a Corvete owner is very material. But, I do thank you for your querry.

I dont remember it in the C4 (92) but in the C5 with the electric seats they go alll the way back so it is easier to get in and out

that always helps

but they are just as easly to sleep in as the C4's
