I started doing a radiator flush, mounted my new chrome fire extinguisher, changed the oil and filter and took it for a ride. It pulled bad to the right when I hit the brakes. Took it home and pulled the left front wheel. Found that the cylinders in the caliper were leaking!! :mad So, I have four new calipers with new brake pads on order…:D I guess after 25 years it would be time for new ones:Steer

I just picked up my 79 about 3 weeks ago and it was "undriven" for a long time.

So here I am, going through each section... and man this is a lot of work.

I have driven maybe 25 miles in the car.
But each day it gets close to "reliable & safe" to drive.

6 days til VEGAS... I hope I can finish by then.

Nick-

That's what you get for storing such a beautiful car. You gotta drive a little during the Winter, I know the Winter this year was lousy....lots of snow and all that. We'll cut you some slack. Glad it's all fixed up and ready to roll.

Doc :Steer

When you mean storage do you mean when I drive it out of the garage because its been in there for a few hours???

Nope, What I mean is this. Mine was in storage for 5 months in a bubble.. (It was started once every six weeks)

Man I wish I had a bubble, Heck I wish I didn't have to drive mine every day. Oh well, us 17 year olds can't afford more than 1 car.

I got OEM rebuilts, Corvette Delco Moraine calipers that have been nitrogen pressure checked, true 4-micron polished stainless steel sleeves, a car set of Raybestos Premium Semi-Metallic pads and 4 new OE Rubber Brake Hoses. The calipers were assembled with new OE aluminum pistons, new Teflon coated bleeders, new pad pins, new rubber seals and dust boots. They are guaranteed for life against defects in materials or workmanship. I got this all for $408 delivered to my door (for all four wheels). :D

caliper pistons froze

That's why I go out and pump the brakes once every 2 weeks when my vettes is in storage during the winter.

Thanks bobchad, I thought it was a good deal... Now I have my work set for me.. I have soooooooo.. much outside work to do in the next few weeks, this is the last thing I needed...:cry

I got screwed on my brakes. It was my first project on my vette having had it about a week. $225 per caliber, that's right per caliper. They've got the stainless steel sleeves and all but for that price I would expect gold.

Since then I have learned to get solid quotes when I have someone do work for me and check the parts prices.

I like that shot of you and your other half in Germany

Wipeout,
Make sure you get a Brake hone to hone the caliper holes and you need to learn the trick of getting the first seal in the hole b/c it is a PITA. I used a eyeglasses flat head screwdriver and ran it around the seal and it dropped riht in then i remembered to put the spring in. By the way the spring way suppose to go in b4 the caliper just always remember that. And best of luck.
