I'm considering doing this since I will probably drive the car with top off all the time anyways. But I'de like to do it with original type vette parts to completely eliminate my a/c system ..... Has anyone done this and will earlier parts work on a 82 to make it easier?

A simple delete would remove the AC compressor belt.

You could remove the compressor, compressor bracket, accumulator drier, condenser coil, and most of the plumbing without too much trouble.

Removing the evaporator coil (i have been told) requires removing the passenger valve cover and cylinder head. How dedicated are you?

Good Luck and don't throw away the original parts!!!

I was actually hoping for a true a/c delete not just removing certain parts. My car will have a 1984 serpentine conversion so deleting the compressor and using a idler pulley shouldn't be a problem. I'm more concerned on how to properly delete the rest like the accumulator, receiver, and put a factory type a/c delete box in the car.

does anyone have any idea if say a 70'ish a/c delete cars stuff will work in my 82? and does anyone have pictures of the parts in question?

I'm not gonna say "dont get rid of your AC" because I don't have mine anymore either, but definitely consider that even with the tops off or down in your case, and the windows down, it still gets hot & sticky in the car on a hot and/or humid day. Especially if you happen to get caught in a warm rain somewhere.
There are times that I wish I still had my AC, but I decided long ago to do without it.

I think you may need to remove the hood to really get the condenser out without smacking anything else. I had some body work done on my car this past summer, so when they had the hood off I had them remove the condenser.

When I removed all my stuff, I didn't bother putting OEM "delete" pieces in. A plug here, a seal there, blah blah blah. As long as it looks clean, I don't care too much about originality. As if it wasn't apparent by looking at my car! :L

I have a 97 camaro for those hot days LOL.

there was a guy that was making a part that would fit where the a/c evaporator box is at, he had been advertising on ebay months ago, i put a reply in an old forum here months ago about it. I don't think you have to remove the dash to pull the a/c evap case, only the heater core removal requires the dash removal. whta about the control panel area? have you thought of that area?

Well everything is out of my car interior so now is the best time to do this a/c delete before everything goes back in it. I'm just going to leave my 82 controller in place unless 77-9-82 had a/c delete controllers.

You cannot do a "stock" delete. AC was standard on the 80-82s so there will be no factory 80-82 parts for the deletion. My advice would be to purchase an assembly instruction manual (AIM) for 77-79 and take a look at the factory non-air set up. The AIM will list the non-air parts you will need for the regular fresh air system.

I realize you have a convertible and you think you won't want the AC, but I can guarantee AC in a convertible is a good thing.

:)

Deleting the A?C on a Corvette will seriously devalue the car.

Any more or less gooderer than in a non-convertible? :confused

No more than say..."chopping the roof and turning the car into a convertible." ;)

I honestly don't care about the value if I did I would never drive it, nor do I plan on getting rid of it or driving it in 110 degree heat I have my 97 camaro to drive in the heat with. The corvette is simply going to be for mostly weekend fun thats all. There was nothing special about this corvette to begin with, isn't like it was a collectors edition and was one of what 10000 white ones made and has the worse engine ever in a corvette where is the collectors value in that.

I don't say how ugly your rims are or anything else you do to your car. You didn't pay for this corvette so what I do with it is my decision. You may not like it being turned into a convertible thats your opinion. I've always wanted a corvette convertible but never liked the earlier style dashes, seats, bumpers. The worlds not going to miss a stock 82 corvette so get over it.

I can only WISH I had A/C in my convertible... I installed heat shielding throughout the cabin; it helps, but it can still get like a sauna in there!
