HUD display dimmer and page switches don't work

Hello and thanks for reading! I just bought a 2004 convertible. The HUD display lights up and shifts up and down perfectly, but page and dimmer/off switches have no effect. The display shows all of the graphics at once and will not change at all. The owners' manual (page 3-20) mentions something about "if sunlight gets into the HUD" then this might happen for a moment, not sure what that means. The HUD does this in my darkened garage and also on the road. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm having problem with mine appearing on the windshield .You can see down in lit up down in there but doesn't project .I've gotten some info off youtube
