I just purchased a 96 Coupe and for some reason (unknown to seller) the automatic climate control will only operate in the defrost mode no matter what button you push to try and change the airflow.
I do have a set of 95 Manuals there are no codes showing and I tried in vain to find the controller. It appears that one of the damper doors is stuck or there may not be any vacuum. (can't locate that hose either). Any advice would be appreciated. I am new so I hope I posted this in the right spot.

Welcome Magster, it may take a little bit but someone who can help you will come along. I just don't happen to be the guy. :w SunCr I think is quite knowlegable on this stuff, and there are others. Good Luck.

Thanks for the welcome! I am hopeful that this is not an unusual situation. The car sat for months at a time and it was in cold weather so I am hopeful that one of the damper doors is just suck... Will see. Again THANKS for the welcome!

Welcome Magster! I'm 99.9% sure you indeed have a vaccum problem. I had the same problem. When vacuum is nill or insufficient, the default is to defrost and floor. Are you getting airflow to the floor as well as defrost? There is a vaccum controller behind the dashboard just above the throttle pedal. Very difficult to get to. There is also a vaccum line that runs from the controller through the firewall to the right side of the engine. Check this line first and hopefully that will be the prob. There was a good thread on here that took you through the procedure, but I can't seem to find it. Maybe someone else can help finding the thread. One thing I'd like to add to it; If you're not a wiry 5'4" 20 year old contortionist, do yourself a favor and yank the drivers' seat if you're going to work on the controller. The "fix" in this thread didn't work for me and I ended up replacing the VC.

Thanks, I was hoping that when they changed the battery that they knocked off a vac line.. One nice thing is that there is still 2 years left on the extended warranty. It apppears to be covered.

And who said extended warr. are not worth having!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you'll find this time , it was money WELL SPENT!!!!!! Good Luck!:D
