Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

I can't believe this :-((((

Hi Lori,
firstly: Welcome to the 82 world.. :w

secondly: Sounds very much like a charge thing, ie. alternator. Dont be too discouraged, after i bought mine (from a dealer specializing in old Vettes of all places), my alternator died out once i had her parked at home, and after a jump start and a drive to his place, he actually charged for a new one.. Since then, i have battled charge type things in my car, batteries falling over, loosing their charge and all. It just happens. The cars dont get any younger. You're better off then me though: You found the CAC before you found your car. I only got here after 11 years of bringing it to various shops (not much of a mechanic ;) )..

Keep that wave going, looked good from here!!

:w
-Stefan

PS: Now, i never drive around without an extra long jumper cable, just in case. :D

Mine did the same thing as yours and it turned out to be a broken white wire that plugs into the alt. on the top with a red one...it car only ran on the battery until it was so down that even the blinkers wouldnot light up.....fixed the wire a year ago and no probems since...good luck and Congrats on the Vette...it will work out...hang in there

sounds pretty typical of an old car, and sight unseen deal. these things happen, but should be expected. this is not a new car, and things will go wrong. it's possible the seller didn't know, he might have tried starting it, and the battery was dead, he assumed battery, not knowing it was a bad alternator, etc. I always give the benefit of the doubt. Same kinda thing happened when my '69 arrived via shipper. I had never seen it. I go to drive it, and the steering is tough to turn. I specifically asked the seller, "does the car have power steering?" he said "yes, and it's all brand new." So as i drive, I assume the car doesn't have power steering. I pop the hood, and it's all there, just doesn't work. I've narrowed it down to a bad pump, and in the stack of reciepts I got with the car, is one for a PS pump with a lifetime warranty, so I pull it off, and take it to the parts store for a new one. I'll put it on tonight. Some other disappointments in my car, I go to lock the doors, and the key doesn't fit either door. I determined the steering column was replaced with one from another car, so the ignition key doesn't match the door anymore. I ordered a matched lock set with ignition and door locks from Year One for $45.00. Seller neglected to tell me that. would it have prevented me from buying the car, no. The seller told me the car was originally black, and is now blue. This is true, but before it was blue, it was yellow (i think) and definatley red. so when there's a scratch in the paint, you see red. Would this have prevented me from buying the car, probably not. Am I even going to bother asking the seller for $$$ back for the door locks, power steering parts, etc. probably not. He was asking $21.5k for the car and refused to budge. I beat him down to $20k and he reluctantly gave in. there's no way he'll give me any $$$ back, so I won't waste my time. I had budgeted $25k for a really nice 69 vert, so if I put $5k into this one, will it be exactly what I wanted, yup, 17" TT wheels, l-88 hood, nice stereo and all. Just all par for the course.
