I dropped it, where did it go?

Ok I am working on the intake runners and I have a torque head screw in my hand, which I then drop into the engine compartment. 3hrs later I haven't a clue where it went. The engine was all together except the last screw. I see a hole in the frame, could that be where it went. I guess I could use a claw to try and retreve it. I can't be the only one that this has happened to?

If no luck, before I go to the dealer and wait 2 weeks and spend a fortune. Does anyone have 1 intake runner torque head screw they want to sell me or where I can find one minus the dealer?

What about using one of those flexible thingies with a magnet on the end? Fish around with that before you take it to a dealer.

Which intake runner screw, As I recall there are a few different lengths.. Let me knwo the length and I will look through my stuff, I am 99% sure I have them.

No caution needed excellent idea, but the frame is metal and the magnet will just catch the frame.

What would be neat is one of those fiber optic cameras and just slide it down the hole and use some flexible claws. It's like doing surgery. The price of the camera could cover a trip to the dealer. Yah that's it.

Hmmm...
I think this will only work if the wife is as crazy about the vette as I am about vettes in general. Try it, the worst that could happen is she says "No!" and you get a black eye...Whoops! that last part is MY house!

I'd try the magnet thingy anyways...if the magent isn't too strong you can push it around until it connects with the screw and lift it out. Shouldn't matter if it sticks to the frame, so long as you can manipulate it around to find the screw.

you might try gently tapping on the bottom of the frame with a small hammer and listen to see if you hear it bouncing around in there "if your pretty sure thats where it went" if you hear it use a flashlight to look in the hole and tap it as close to the opening as you can get it ..then try a grabber or a magnet...just a thought

Just my .02 Wrap electrical tape around your magnet leaving only the end exposed. Then try to fish it down into your frame. It might drag that screw out of the hole.
