And in about 90 minutes I'll climb in my teeny-tiny Honda for the 42 mile drive home. [Dreaming of doing this in the Corvette, one day....]

I don't have internet access at home, you see.

Kiwi, you are a fun person - happy to know you. I am also in this forum from Turkey. I do not know which one of us is further from USA ; probably me...

What is this NZ law for importing 20 years old cars?

Or is that brake disks, exhaust silencers, bonnets, boots, sumps, tyres, wheel nuts, tommy bars, sills, petrol tanks, windscreens, bushes, litres, saloons, estates....?

;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

Make sure when you do come over here to get your new family member, that you take a pilgrimage to Bowling Green, Kentucky, and visit the factory and museum.

Heck, visit an area where lots of us CAC'ers hang out, and we'll probably spring for drinks or something.

Pleased to meet you too!

You can only import used cars into NZ if they are right hand drive (or converted to RHD), and the model has been crash tested to certain specific regulations. Effectively, the crash tests rule rules out most cars made before about 1995.

But there is an exclusion - if any car was first registered over 20 years before it arrives at the NZ port of entry, it is considered a "classic" and the RHD conversion and crash test regulations do not apply. All you then have to do is prove ownership, and pay the applicable tax, which is 12.5% of purchase cost + shipping + insurance.

Now that's a set of ideas that I REALLY like!

I had one of those once. I broke it. It was all torque and no substance. Geddit? <grin>

Hence the name, "breaker bar"..... ;LOL

P.S. Is there a term used for a Corvette enthusiast? I mean, along the lines that Ferrari enthusiasts are called Tifosi.
Poor?? :D If I had all the money back that went into all my differnent Vettes over the years, I would be rich

Thanks! I was beginning to think that no-one had spotted my joke! I was rather proud of it too. Sorry. English humor is all about puns and plays on words, and the parody of "all talk and no substance" was too tempting, especially as my torque was too much for the substance of the breaker bar. Sigh. I'll shut up now.....

Don't worry, there is at least one person here who understands your English sence of humour, even if I am Scottish :L
<grin>

I appreciate the comment! What I've found out since moving here is that New Zealanders view Australians the way that Scottish folk view the English. And it gets finer than that. Wellingtonians view Aucklanders the same way. Here in Wellington, we call Aucklanders JAFAs.

Just Another F***ing Aucklander.

:L I will be my usual diplomatic self and say I am first Scottish, second British and lastly European. I have heard New Zealand is a beautifull country one of the few I havn't visited.

Many people here in NZ tell me that my English sense of humor is a bit odd. Feel free to tell me to shut up if I start free-running.
For some reason I really appreciate a quirky sense of humor, and I thought the "all torque and no substance" reference was great. I do love a good pun... come to think of it, even a bad one :L

Anyway, I don't know of a term as cool as tifosi for vette people. I think I've heard of vetters or vette-heads, but they just don't have the same ring ;)
